30 | Claudio Echeverri - 2025/26 (on loan at Leverkeusen)

Can see him going to a top French team on loan (not PSG). Didn’t we have an agreement with Lyon that we would loan a player as part of the Cherki deal? Also a club like Marseille, Monaco or Lille could be viable options.

A lot will depend on Echeverri if he wants to continue his football in Europe.

If he pushes for a move back to Argentina he can call it a day in Europe.

City should sue if that's the case because no Argentine side will pay the fee we paid for him and we ain't paying him European wages on loan in South America.

Why? He’s 19.

We didn’t sign Alvarez until he was 22.

Alvarez wasn't good enough for Europe at 19.

Echeverri is and it's why City should push for another European loan.

If he goes back to Argentina it tells me he mentally isn't up to what it takes.

Echeverri turns 20 in the early days of January and, as far as I’m aware, we would need to clear a ‘foreign spot’ to accommodate him. Even if we had such a spot, I’m not sure he’s what we currently need, and it would also smack of rewarding someone for having ignored our advice.
Girona would be a good landing spot. They have stabilised in recent weeks, losing and winning games by the odd goal, and going there in January would help both parties.
He can play in the PL as an U-21 without impacting on squad numbers. He can not play in Champions League without taking someone elses place on the A-List. But as you say I don't think he is what we currently need in the PL and he hasn't done anything to show why he would be included in our CL squad.

If his Leverkusen loan is going to be terminated he needs a good Championship side or a European league with a manager who can see a regular space for him.

Still think Girona would be his best bet. His agent hasn't done him any favours, though, as other European/Championship clubs will see that he's been unimpressive in Leverkusen and that he also comes with the distraction of a vocal entourage.

In a way trying to force his way back to River Plate is worse than forcing a move to leverkusen. At least that was ambitious and he was backing himself.

Going back to River is a tantrum. Soured on him a lot with his handling of this, and I don't think many tears will be shed at this point if he goes in the summer.

I agree.

I do think however there is absolutely no chance City pay him European wages to play in South America.

If he pushes for River Plate, that's his career over at City.

City hold the cards with him and I think they will secure him a mid-table Spanish loan.

Unbelievable not choosing Girona. He wouldn’t make the WC squad anyways. They have Paz and mastanuoto clearly in front of him when it comes to the 10 position behind Messi.

Equally irritated with City (and a few posters on here) who bombard the official website and supporters forums with carefully doctored videos of ten minute cameos, before disappearing without trace when it transpires that our next signing is more lightweight than Christopher Biggins

He is a very young man, and young men make mistakes. His advisors have far more to answer for than he does. Hopefully, he, and they, have learnt their lesson and his next club will be decided by the club he is contracted to. He is a big talent, but the gap between talent and achievement can be vast.

Couldn't blame him in some ways. 19 years old and signed for the top club in England with the best coach/manager in the world, then shipped out to Germany then maybe France.

Not exactly a settling time for a young lad.

Being shipped to Germany was completely his
( or his agents) making.
Was asked to go to our sister club but wanted to go to Italy.

Still only 19 and being shipped around. We'll see how it all turns out. I'd like to think if we brought him over we'd have fancied him. I have no idea if part of the deal was loaning him out to other clubs until he is deemed good enough to play in the PL. I've not seen the lad, so I'm not sure if he'd fit into our squad, I'll trust the manager on that decision.

When any loan goes wrong just remember Zinchenko

Was loaned to PSV, couldn't make first team regularly so they let him play with Jong PSV ( Their EDS team )

Then he was back to City and managed to play and win few titles.

Or Tommy Doyle, Patrick Roberts etc.

I don’t disagree with you, but the concern in such cases is not so much the loan deal flopping, as the player heeding voices other than that of the parent club.

Can’t be fucked with a player who has an entourage or doesn’t do as instructed at such a young age.

Try and sell him and move on imo.

There is something in what you are saying.
Bah, Reis and Nypan all went on loan with what appears to have been little difficulty.
That appearance ( and great goal) in the CWC may have bigged him up too much.
Interesting to see what happens in the summer as we are not short on good young players, all itching to further their career with us.

What a ridiculous post.

The lad was courted by a top team in the CL, what do you want him to do?
Go to Girona, who are fucking shit, because it helps out Peps brother and the CFG.
Fuck that.

The lad backed himself to go there, nobody was to know that Ten hag would be gone inside a few months and the next manager doesn’t want to use him. It’s not worked out, shit happens but it wasn’t the wrong move to start with.
