31 | Ederson - 2024/25

And he signed a new contract last year amidst plenty of speculation some big teams were willing to offer him their number 1 spot. He isn't signing that contract without a substantial bump in wages. It's unlikely he's on what Ederson is but there won't be this massive disparity between them for it to be noteworthy.
According to the go to websites Ederson is on 180k a week & Ortega with his new deal is on 90k a week which is still massive of course. Regardless of that I think Ortega is genuinely a much better keeper & if we can get a nice fee I'd cash in on Eddie, but of course the minute Eddie leaves Ortegas wages will double anyway, unless we replace Eddie wih a new number 1.

I'm hugely skeptical of those websites, even the popular ones and I'm almost certainly guilty of using them myself but there's just no way they have this information. Who is leaking a players wage? The player likely isn't wanting that out there, the club aren't, so who is it? the only time it's conceivable is if it's a low wage and his agent is seeking a payday and a new contract that thr club arent keen on giving. The thing is, they claim to know every single players wages. It's just not remotely believable when you think about the level of private information they'd need to have but we all just accept it as truth for some reason.

But that's a different thing altogether, for arguments sake, accepting those figures to be true, 100k a week difference is nothing in the grand scheme of things, it's a nice bonus to save that but it's inconsequential in any of our thinking.

I love Ortega, best backup we've ever had and have no issues when he comes in but he's not in any way better than Ederson imo.

Eddie gives us another tactical advantage when he plays.

I hope he's staying and not 'injured' to move to Saudi in January.

Half the websites also think that Ederson is on £100k a week too.

They just play pin the tail on the donkey.

Not buying illness or injury.

He was dropped after a calamity performance and I don’t think he’s reacted well.

I love the bloke. Been mint and was one of the main reasons we won the CL. But as soon as he started talking to Saudi clubs in the Summer, his head was out the door. And he’s played like it this season.

Plus teams don’t particularly press us up high anymore which is where Ederson’s unique ability and calmness excelled. So now he’s essentially just being asked to be a shot stopper and I don’t think he’s good enough to be that. He’s improved. Tenfold. But still not good enough IMO.

18 months on his contract and unlikely to sign another one given our offer will be small compared to what he’s being offered to go to Saudi. Probably one who will go in the Summer.

Chance for Ortega who never lets us down to nail down his position IMO.

If his head has been turned then it’s got to make sense to try to get a fee for him whilst there is some time on his contract.

Pep clearly is in conflict over who his number one is after the amount of changes we’ve seen recently that haven’t been down to injury.

Ederson has never been a shot stopper in my opinion, in fact, there were times where I thought he was a hologram, although earlier this season I thought that side of his game had improved. He has been great with his feet and his ability in that area has helped us start attacks and ultimately win titles but we simply don’t play in a way that needs that now. So the better shot stopper and 1 on 1s is Ortega and so he gets the nod from me.

He's another that has been brilliant for us, like Walker, Stones and De Bruyne but it’s likely in the club’s best interest to let him go. Especially if we can get a few quid for him to buy a back up to Ortega.

Loads of people on here chose not to believe the Saudi story last summer surely on the basis it was Sam Lee who published it. Childish ignorance.
