33 | Nico O'Reilly - 2025/26

Was that normal for that generation? I always hear about rags going to watch City as a kid, but I never heard it the other way round.
My Grandad always used to tell me that before and immediately after the Second World War, there weren’t really “away fans” as we know them today. Mancunians would go to Maine Road when City were at home and the swamp when they were at home. That changed going into the 50’s and 60’s.
I still have his old programs going back to the 50’s and he does have a few rag ones but by the time I was born he hated them that much he’d have put Mike Doyle to shame.

We used to go to both when I was a kid in the 70s, my parents aren't from Manchester. My big brother's a rag so naturally I chose City :-)

Back on topic - Nico's gonna be a club legend

I put this in the media discussion thread but now feel it should be in here. With a change of video.

Its about time we had a Collyhurst lad in the team, following in the footsteps of Colin Barlow and Brian Kidd who were also St. Patrick boys. I've sang this song a hundred times and more in my youth.

Collyhurst road I am forsaken...

Brilliant, thank you

My dad was born in 57 him and his rag mate both Moss Side lads used to do this while being young lads up until the early 70s, can't say how common it was by then but it was still common enough that my dad and his mate at least did it.

Until my dad started going to the away games sometime in the early/mid 70s it'd still be a ritual both him and his mate did, I'm guessing it was near non existent by the late 70s as the years rolled on and car ownership plus away days really took off, my dad stopped once he regularly started going away games with other blue mates.

I've personally never been to the swamp and I intend to keep it that way, just can't bring myself to visit that eyesore not without investing in a hazmat at least.

Surely must be the PFA Young Player of the Year unless they remember Max Dowmans iconic moment in Premier League History (Skys words).
I said weeks ago on this very hallowed forum that Nico IS the Young POTs. However disadvantage, Downan is beloved of the London media luvvy types and as they are all so busy touting for Fried Rice as senior POTs wouldn't they just love to do another Arsanal 'double ' and completely unfairly MD the award. Nico is literally head and shoulders above both of those two in talent and stature. His mum dun good ( as the more erudite, ahem pundits) would say.... :-) ).

My Dad told me the same -when he came down to Manchester in the fifties he would go to whichever was at home that Saturday, and it was only in the late 60's that it got tribal.

I have wrote a song based on this tune for Nic O Reilly tell me what you think here is the chorus.

Nic O Reilly you are amazing
With your tackling and super defending
This message to England we are sending
Your the man a City fan
from Collyhurst Road

Think this would be great for Nico its simple and could be belted out, better than the standard Nico Nico

Stolen from an Irish auto parts supplier
OH OH OH OH REIIIILYYYY repeat........

This lad has Yaya vibes all over. Just incredible, he’s going to be the best ever from the academy. He said he has no nerves, just a winner!

Last time I went to the swamp was April 27th 1974.
I vowed never to return.
I didn’t want anything to get in the way of that memory.
