33 | Nico O'Reilly - 2025/26

His form did drop off a bit before the Carabao but in that final and again today he was brilliant. It's great seeing academy players coming through and he is a special player.

Think he had a knock and wasn't the best in the RM first leg.

But it would be harsh to blame the loss on him..

Ruben and Donnarumma were mostly to blame for that shitshow along with our leaving the midfield wide open.

Ahh but he is no Dowman! So much hype for this Arsenal lad, yet we have a youngster, in Nico, who has had an exceptional year, yet he gets no real plaudits. Nico could be in the running for PL player of the season for me. How many has he got from left back? How many assists? Nico is and will get better as well

There was a point in the first half where he has clearly decided that Salah is no threat, so he went to play centre forward - and produced the penalty along with other threats. his adaptability is such an asset - as is his intelligence to know when he is free to go forward and when he needs to stay back.

His development the past 18 months has been incredible to watch. Genuinely has the potential to the best midfielder on the planet

Phenomenal impact.

He's a big reason why the current system worked so well vs Arsenal and Liverpool.

Guess he'll start for England in the WC.

I mentioned in his early months in the team how he needed to develop better close control and using his body differently when he had the ball high up the pitch, where he was often dispossessed due to having a high centre of gravity and opposition players would get under that centre and use their body weight on his long legs to dig the ball out from him.

…and he’s certainly developed that. He’s started to use a style of possession that Zidane and Gareth Barry utilised in their careers a lot, where they get themselves between the opposition players and the ball well making it hard for anyone to get the ball off them without fouling them.

Nico is really starting to look like a cracking prospect and is already up there with anyone of his own age anywhere.

The next thing would be to see how he develops a quicker pass into Haaland and other forwards. He’s a little hesitant at times to release the ball when it’s on. The way he’s developed anything that’s needed ironing out so far has been superb so will be interesting to see this one develop.

Love this lad though, always great to see a local City fan in the team, fans always have a closer connection to these players and them to us.
