37 years is correct but no football happened during the world wars, fuck it though the rag cunts didnt win a trophy for 37 years and we'll get the champions league next year and probably the league cup too
WRONG.

There was interwar cups, so sorry to blow your rag defence right through the roof.

Yes there were.

But most football historians will tell you that they don't really count, as football during the war years was organised on a regional basis to minimise travelling.

Many regular players were missing due to military service, so all the clubs used 'guest' players to fill-in where required.

In the case of Spurs, who started WWII in the Second Division, we were quite successful during the war years and won the Football League South three times - in 1939-40, 1943-44 and 1944-45.

But these three Championship wins are never included in our major honours list.

Ignoring the 37 years stuff, the bit about the wartime games is true however many historians (including myself) believe that many of the wartime games were just as significant (if not more so) than peace time games because of their morale boosting effect. I firmly believe that those players (like Mercer, Busby, Swift etc.) who played international football during the war should have been awarded caps and the games given full recognition as internationals. Sometimes they played within sound of gunshot/fighting and I am convinced those were much more significant than modern day meaningless friendlies with half a dozen subs etc.

Slightly of topic ,but could someone give me the city team when we beat united 1-0 and law scored the backheel

It came in the 1973-74 season after the first match had finished 0-0 at Maine Road with both Mike Doyle and Lou Macari getting sent off.

The players refused to leave the field, so the referee brought both teams in until they did.

The return game at Old Trafford resulted in a 1-0 win to City with Francis Lee providing the assist late in the match for Denis Law's back-heel, which effectively relegated United, although results in other key games that day meant that they would have gone down anyway even with a win.

Law was substituted immediately afterwards (never to play professional football again) and United's fans staged a pitch invasion in an effort to get the game abandoned, but the result stood.

United's team that day...

Alex Stepney
Alex Forsyth
Stewart Houston
Brian Greenhoff
Jim Holton
Martin Buchan
Willie Morgan
Lou Macari
Sammy McIlroy
Jim McCalliog
Gerry Daly

Law is a legend. Loved by reds and blues. A lovely bloke who will always be The King.

Sorry, I have to correct you. It's widely believed Law never played professionally again but that's not true. It's a myth that's been generated to increase the impact of the story (occasionally you will read/hear that Law was 'too heartbroken to play again' but it's not factually correct).

Law did play again - for Scotland in the 1974 World Cup Finals (and was disappointed not to be picked for all their games) and he also played domestically for City in first team competitive football.

Law's last first team game was City V Oldham 10/8/74 when he was substituted for Barney Daniels at Maine Rd in the Texaco Cup. Three days later City signed Asa Hartford and Hartford was selected ahead of Law for City's 3 opening League games that season. Law then retired.

He retired on 26th August 1974. His last first team goal was V Sheff Utd on 6/8/74 in the Texaco Cup.
