I genuinely think that most MP's go into the job to either get a star on their CV or to plump themselves for the big money opportunities afterwards. That is book deals, after dinner speeches or the private sector paying them handsomely for their knowledge and contacts.
No sensible and normal person in public service would behave this way. Even in the private sector I know of only a handful of people at our company who tried it on with expenses and they didn't last long. Why should it be any different just because you're elected?
It's about time that MP's were disciplined independently and that means acknowledging that yes they're elected but no they're not invincible because of it.
There should be a HR or similar which at least upholds the law and code of conduct. If that is broken then they're disciplined not by the party but by an independent parliamentary body. If they're found guilty then they are punished with the punishment potentially meaning that they are removed as an MP. The parties should not be involved.
We can't have this ridiculous system where MP's literally can have or gain criminal records and still potentially could land themselves in charge of or in a position of influence over the judicial system. For a start these morons don't even need to fulfil the criteria for a security clearance to oversee our armed forces and intelligence services! It's completely barmy.
