Nothing to do with the pace of play in the Prem. He's gotten into excellent positions regularly. He's just been off in terms of finishing. He's scuffed a few, blasted over, hit the post on more than one occasion and had some well saved. With some improvement in this area Reijnders' impact will surely increase...
 
In our 433 or 4231 system (depending on how you consider Fodens position as a LCM 8/10 or as a CAM)

I think Reijnders best chance to be a starter is to be the midfield player between Foden and Rodri/Nico G, the deeper 8 role that Bernie is doing.

Now Bernie still goes forward sometimes, bur Foden clearly has more license for that.

Reijnders qualities can more naturally be the backup to Foden for sure, but his "golden opportunity" here is to displace Bernie and be a "starter".

Im not sure he will be happy as a backup to Foden (even though that's his best position), but he needs to learn the Bernie role if he wants to be a starter next season.
 
Should have learned most roles at Milan.

I am not sold on him, not sure if I'll ever be.

His footing also looks like he's still youth even though he's well over 20. His passing is alright but apart from the goal at Wolves he's fairly careless with his shots, who does that remind me of? perhaps Jo. perhaps a midfield version of Neymar who can't really showboat.

so we might see him at another Prem club even though he is a Championship level squad player, well before his contract expires.

Its going to be tough, coz once Rodri returns he'd have really stiff competition with Rodri, Gonzalez and Bernie all being capable at playing that position at a high level.

I suppose it depends on how se want to play it. But with Doku now developing his inside game and Cheeki being a natural inside winger a base of 2 DMs is more likely and Rodri, Gonzalez, Bernie and Kova ( when he returns) are all better suited for that role.

So his best bet is really in a direct competition with Phil, otherwise if we decide to use 2 AM and 1 DM like in teams from years past.

I can see the double AM against weaker teams. But as this new team is developing and finding its identity, a single AM with Narrower wingers snd 2 CMs at the base seems the preferred set.

We'll see. Long season. He'll get his run and time to shine

Unfortunately if his best bet is in competition with Phil, then he loses to Phil and Cherki most of the time.

That's why he needs to be more like Kova or Bernie imo.
 
Newcastle away is not a game for him to start at the moment. More suited to the home game V Leverkusen
 
For me, Reijnders is a conundrum. He could either solve our midfield issues alongside Nico G or follow his current trajectory into oblivion. I like to think he is better than we have seen.
 
Should start over Silva against Leeds at home and he needs to perform.
 
Besides his first game against the worst team in the league, he's been a huge disappointment.

Doesn't look good enough at all so far.
 
Should have started over Cherki imo.

Foden is fine on the right, especially in tight games like yesterday's.
 
He clearly has ability. Got into some good attacking positions but fluffed his chances or been unlucky with the woodwork. From a physical point of view he looks a lightweight when limits who you can combine him with. Honestly not sure how we get the best out of him except as extra cover for Foden in the central role.

No. You don't move Foden. Our success or failure will reat on the shoulders of Erling, Phil, and Jeremy offensively. With Cherki, Tijanni and the rest adding toppings.

There is no point shifting them to suit others. Those 3 have their best position and everyone else should slot in where they can.
