Why the fuck was he so deep despite us having Rodri and Bernie ? made no sense at all and he had zero impact, did better when he was pushed forward but it was too late.
Thought that. I don't like him at all playing deep.

Yeah well he ain't changing shit if we continue to play this slow rubbish.Technically hes not great, but the club has decided to go in this direction with him and Marmoush etc, higher error rate but extended dynamism etc
There's been a huge move towards players who can carry the ball. If you watch those stats types on Youtube, you'll see that everyone we have bought and been linked in is really strong in 'progressive carries,' which basically means dribbling the ball up the pitch by themselves. Kovacic is another one as was Nunes at Wolves. Gibbs-White and Eze, who we were linked to over the last two summer windows, were also strong in this area. It's bizarre really, because it seems to go against what Pep used to rely on to move the ball up the pitch, which is good positioning, quick passing and interplay. Now we've got players who don't seem to have the same technique to receive the ball in tight spaces with the possible exception of Cherki. It's also compounded by Haaland, who is probably the worst offender in terms of a poor first touch. It suggests a change of tactics, but then we haven't really seen that change materialize.Technically hes not great, but the club has decided to go in this direction with him and Marmoush etc, higher error rate but extended dynamism etc, their impact is in the final 3rd, and maybe winning the ball back at times
Everyone lost out to McTominay. Also he wasThis guy lost out to McTominay and I am not surprised. Flat track bully that gets shoved off the ball and takes way too long with his turns. He finished 8th with Milan so what did we expect?

Clearly better than his teammates last season. There is no 2nd Messi that determines if you win the league or end up 6th.
Your point about him looking good in Serie A, not necessarily being an indication of his ability to be a top player in the PL is a fair one. I've thought the same myself (also about Cherki). But we have them now, so we need to somehow make it work and it's probably going to take more time than usual due to us trying to blend in 4 or 5 players at the same time. This guy lost out to McTominay and I am not surprised. But this type of player is an antithesis to Pep's style. I don't get it.Technically hes not great, but the club has decided to go in this direction with him and Marmoush etc, higher error rate but expanded dynamism etc, their impact is in the final 3rd, and maybe winning the ball back at times. Pretty triangles is not for them, let the rest do that though - except Haaland
