4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

Don’t think I’ve seen a player for us so hit and miss since kolarov
he has 1 good game against Wolves who are favorites to be relegated , his defensive contribution is non existent , for him to play .we would need to play both Nico and Rodri together.

Need so much more from him. A great runner undoubtedly but really struggling to adapt to our style at the moment. Needs to compose himself. Play it to feet and find a team mate, less urgency to ping a ball over the top or play too quickly.

seemed to think the ball was a hot potato I had high hopes after the Wolves game but he’s struggling with the pace and physicallity of the league

Welcome to the real Premier League. It may take some adjustment!

Class player but will need a little time. I’m happy to be patient.

This. There's obviously a player in there but he's currently a split second behind the rest of the others - that should come with time and experience in the league. It all just seems a bit too quick for him at the moment. That's my observation anyway.

But he has obvious qualities (he would've got an assist if NOR knew Haaland was behind him in the first half!) and his forward running and all-round energy is fantastic. He was only about 10 yards away from Haaland by the time he scored his second. And was right next to him when he hit the post too.

All the analysis I read about him when we signed him suggested he's not got any defensive qualities, and it does seem that way now. Like Rodri, they managed to rush him a fair bit yesterday and he made mistakes, but his forward runs cause so many problems for the opposition, which can then create space for others. He'll be good for us.

There were times yesterday when I though he was over-keen - a couple of wayward passes where he just needed to calm down and find the right strength of pass, some tackles he jumped into a bit too quickly. But he is getting in the right places, he is looking to make the right passes - it will come.

Meanwhile over at Anfield Florian is ripping up trees.... or not as is the case. Give him time.

The technique and vision is obviously there. The mentality seems good too. Doesn't hide. Just needs to get a bit faster in thought and stronger - which may be a lack of real pre-season or just adjusting to the league.

Couldn't have got a better Gundogan replacement imo.

Once Rodri is back up to speed he’ll be able to sit in more and free up Reijnders to go forward where he’ll be more comfortable. At the moment, neither of them is up to full speed so they’re having to look after each other a little bit so we’ll have to be a bit patient.

He was no worse than Rodri yesterday which isn’t much praise but shows it’s not always about ability.
