4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

Look at the improvement in Nico and have a little patience. He's a talented player, with excellent physicality. He's come from a team where he played box to box and they looked to get forwards quickly. He's now in a team where decision making is vital. He rushes things at times, he dribbles the ball too much at times, he takes the wrong option in the final third at times. But he's shown some excellent attributes as well and it's just about adjusting and learning how to play in this team. He'll get there, and when he does he'll be a brilliant player for us with his energy and work rate. Come the turn of the year I think he'll be one of the first names on people's team sheet.

Reijnders has been disappointing especially after looking like he would be a good attacking threat following pre season and the game against Wolves.

The frustrating thing is, and this isn’t just Reijnders but also nearly every player we have signed the last couple of years, the area of the team that we really needed to improve was dealing with losing the ball and quick transitions against us, essentially without the ball we were poor. Now every single review of Reijnders I read before he signed was that he was a good player but without the ball not very good. We cannot all be shocked that 9 weeks into the season he isn’t very good when we don’t have the ball. It’s bad planning from the club, again.

See the same for Ait Nori, Savinho, Cherki, Marmoush, Nunes all technical but weak without the ball. At least Nico G has turned a corner a bit. We can only hope the others improve as well.
More BS...

He was class tonight, felt he was more disciplined, him and Phil seemed to alternate who went forward and who stayed deeper worked well.

His on the ball ability is good, not great right now but good.

He got 2 assists, but let's face it, those 2 goals were all about Phil's shooting ability as Reijnders gave him a pretty routine pass, but he made the correct pass nonetheless.

It's his off ball work that's the issue.

In that midfield duo, Phil made 5 ball recoveries while Tijani made 1. Gonzalez made 10, but he is a freak and the DM spot naturally leads to those.

Neither made any interceptions, and while we don't really expect defensive ability from Phil, it's kind of concerning to me how much better he is than Reijnders (and that's doesnt say much).

He is still new though, so lots of time to improve, his off ball work needs to go way up.

Slightly better than the non-existant performances he has largely shown but still miles away from what we require. All the big holes that appeared in midfield the deeper into the game we got were down to him. At least it got some rest into Bernardo, needs to return to the bench for the weekend.
