4 | Tijjani Reijnders - 2025/26

I do genuinely think he's the biggest example of players suffering because of too much turnover. If he'd arrived and been slotted into a settled midfield next to Rodri and KDB last year I think he'd be playing well by now.

Instead he is one of half a dozen players trying to learn a new scheme, adapt to a new league, form new partnerships all at the same time. We're dropping people into a disorganised, unstable team.

Having said that, I really do not like how little aggression he has in his game. With or without the ball he's just bleh, no substance, no urgency. We started playing well when he dropped from the starting line up and I expect we'll look a lot better when he's back on the bench.

Seems to be one of many ‘just not good enough’ players we’ve signed in the last 18 months, piss poor recruitment.
We take the piss out of the rags signings but we’re just as bad
And that in a nutshell is the problem - we used to field a team with 8 or 9 players ranging from very good to great. We now field a team with 8 or 9 players ranging from average to good.

Paying £30, £40 & £50 million for average players is a dereliction of duty by the recruitment department, they should be made accountable and called out for piss poor judgement.

I reckon after spending £100 million on Jack the club were scared shitless of making another mega signing…..unfortunately the going rate for ‘top’ players is circa. £70/£80 million
It’s a false economy though when we keep buying these “value” signings and they turn out to be shite. A Phillips here, a Reijnders there. They’re only value, if they you get a good hit ratio. Once you start moving to 2 out 3 being turd (and we must be around that ratio), it’s just money down the drain and that’s on top of the club going backwards on the pitch.

There needs to be a change in the scouting and recruitment department as getting rubbish players is now a regular habit.
I think we’ve started to move a bit like arsenal under wenger, overly obsessed with getting a good deal rather than getting the right player, and walking away from top targets over cost. It’s depreciating our overall quality, over a good 3/4 years now.

Just not a good circumstance for him to come in. Think it'll take until at least the spring if not next season for him to look more settled.

I am disappointed at how sloppy he is with the ball at times though. Too many times he's been way off the mark with the weight of his passes and caught out with poor control in tight spaces. He carries the ball well when there's space ahead of him, but his final passes or shots are shocking sometimes.

I didn't watch him in Italy, or prior to that, so i hold my hands up and admit I knew nothing about him when we signed him.

Last night he was the worst player on the pitch for me, passive and competely ineffectual.

But what was his attitude and demeanor previous to us? Did he used to get stuck in? Only succeed if those around him played well? Could he influence games?

I hope he finds a bit of whatever it was he had, very soon. He's having a season to forget so far.

I was very surprised in the summer when found out he is 27 already. was player of the season in Italy in a very poor side. I think he is finding the transition to much quicker, more physical league very hard, as he relies more on this technical skills vs someone like Tonali who came from same team/league but a much more physical player.

he had a good pre season game maybe vs Palermo and then scored vs Wolves but since I am not sure he had even a great half.
