Loved that he got a ‘hit’ in before going off. Did well to recover from that. Clearly ine for the future, not quite ready yet.

Will ask though, Thoughtbhe was rapid? Didnt look too quick to me.
That's the worry. I thought he was supposed to be a physical beast that would replace Walker. He looked sluggish to me.

Not sure about the pace worry - he didn't really seem to ever be at full speed and we know he's fast from the videos at Lens. Even when tracking back for Palmer, he didn't seem like he was going full pelt - maybe concerned about flying in on a yellow? I thought the team gave him the ball a fair bit after the error - maybe to help him get a footing - but it was only Bernie who made himself available for passes.

Overall, he'll learn from those couple of errors and hopefully in future appearances not only will he have Dias alongside him to guide him, but he might also have a shared bit of language. Loved his sliding tackle, the block, his recovery vs Jackson and that tasty shoulder barge

Just to reiterate about his pace

Not used to the speed of the Premier League is my take. He was mentally a little off the pace, we really didn’t get to see how quick he can run. By all accounts that’s not an issue.

Clearly was Nervous his passes were struggling to reach players and looked less assured and powerful
It was nervousness will improve though

You know 9 out of 10 times this argument falls flat, right? having said that, I remember Silva bullying and bossing every one on one he had with Fellaini at the game we won 2-1 at the swamp (goals from Kdb and Nacho), I still find myself laughing at how ridiculously good Silva was in that game.

Actually, @bondsman is correct. A battle is not won on strength alone, it's the ability to adapt and find solutions against a bigger opponent.

I would say if Bellingham is just as strong, Khusanov is quicker, can re-direct him. Win the battle...

Find solutions.

So he does not speak French where he stayed for 2 years? A lot of our players speak French. Since Yaya and Fernandinho left no one in City speaks Russian so he really does not have anyone to talk to in the club.
Gundogan allegedly speaks Russian, and Turkish is similar to Uzbek as well, so hopefully he can help going forward.

For 35 million quid we shouldn't be getting a player that shits his pants and makes daft mistakes to be fair

Honestly, this is a good debut for someone on a yellow after a rough start. Akanji didn't do him any favours there.
Some good passing, reading of the game, clearances, applied just enough pressure, some good tackles, strentgh.

Media will be desperate to twist this, but this lad actually did very well under the circumstances.

edit: The original video now got blocked, here is another one:

Let's be honest - a shit performance in his first game, gone horribly awry. The look on his face when he came off tells the story.

On the other hand, Khusanov is clearly talented. He's young, doesn't speak english, and was thrust into a starting role with minimal training, coming from a French league that's at a far different level of pace, talent and intensity, than the Premier League.

Takeaways:
* Too soon yet to start Khusanov in a must-win game against top opposition
* Khusanov showed a lot of talent in his debut
* Far too early to judge how he'll turn out

I guess you missed the sliding one when he beat Sancho to the ball you idiot
I don't think it counts in the stats as I am pretty certain the Chelsea player was flagged offside straight after the tackle.

I thought it was a great tackle and saw enough to think we have invested wisely. Did feel sorry for I'm in the first few minutes as the Chelsea first goal came from our throw in which went straight to a Chelsea player. From then until the goal was scored he was under pressure.

Thanks for this.
As i wrote in the other thread, I missed the first 5 or 6 mins and only later realised his nervous start. Despite that error, my first impression was that he had a solid debut and then reading the comments on here, I was starting to wonder if I watched a completely different game. But if you look at this video, he definitely had a solid debut and no way he was poor, whether it is physical, positional or passing. To do that after a disastrous start talks more about his character than a normal debut would have. I personally think we found our Walker replacement - as in Pep could draw a zone and just ask him to defend it, no other instructions.
