45 | Abdukodir Khusanov - 2025/26

He was player of the month when he had a run in the team. He was poor for his first 7 minutes against Chelsea and after that I thought he was great.
He made mistakes, he makes mistakes. I don't think he's anywhere near as good as some people on here - however, whats the fucking worst that could happen?

He’s a young lad though and mistakes can happen. There are senior players that make mistakes game after game and still get picked. He isn’t going to get any better sat on the bench.

Akanji isn’t what we need and Dias has been very poor for quite a while. We’re playing Nunes out of position too so yeah, what’s the worst that can happen? He needs a chance. I just can’t see why he’s not getting on the pitch. He has pace, is strong and plays a simple game.

Akanji dias and gvardiol all make mistakes so does our goalkeeper
Yep. So you have to pick who you think will make the better mistakes!! At this point, it might be worth giving him a go. I've not seen nearly enough of him or Reis to form a solid opinion. I also think his technical ability on the ball being not great might help us move the ball to real playmaker quicker.

I'm a bit disappointed we didn't see more of him. With his speed it seems obvious that he should be playing on the right to help us defend transitions. The club world cup was arguably the perfect tournament to give him time ahead of the new season. Really surprised Pep went back to Akanji.

I'm not surprised at all...if Akanji is fit Pep will somehow try to shoe him into the starting eleven as he loves him.

Hoping Viana takes a strong stance & sells him & Gundo this summer to remove these 'options' for Pep and actually give Khusanov a serious run in the side...he maybe young but his skillset was perfect for this game to combat Al-Hilal's counter.

No point buying exciting new players if Pep continues to play the old guard, which is a given next season if they are fit & available.

I mean maybe, but how many games has Pep lost by thinking 'nah, we don't need a defensive midfielder today?' The 2021 Champions League final for a fucking start. I don't think it matters who's at the back while he continues to act like anyone can do a job in that position.

I get he may not be the finished article but are we basing this on the 1st half v Bournemouth. I thought he was brilliant in every other game . Especially Newcastle , Spurs and Liverpool.

Really? Can't say I agree with that. Yes, his first few minutes on his debut weren't great, but I thought he was okay. He certainly isn't shit. Like others have said, maybe Pep sees flaws in him in training that we don't get to see.
He has some good performances and some poor performances. I think there's a decent body of evidence that he isn't good enough for us right now (but might be in the future).

We spent 70 million on the pair. If they aren't good enough to be considered when our defence is so porous questions should be asked.

They're long term prospects. Football didn't end last night when we were knocked out of a postseason money spinner.

If he played for Bournemouth we would be all over him.
There‘s some players who will always play regardless. Akanji is one of them. Viana needs to sell all these options. As I already mentioned in another thread. This experience thing is overrated if the better players are sitting on the bench and we keep losing games.

He’ll probably start his first game of the season in October, at right back, and will have a below par game as he hasn’t played for months and is playing out of position. Then that will be justification for Pep that he isn’t good enough!

That's not the same as saying "he's shit" though, is it? He's a 21 year old, playing in a foreign country (presumably, he hasn't mastered the intricacies of the English language yet). If you're expecting a hybrid of prime Beckenbauer/Maldini at this stage of his career, you're going to be disappointed. As has already been pointed out, when he did get a run in the team, he got the player of the month award. I'm not sure what more can be expected of him at this stage. If he doesn't get games, how are we going to know how he'll turn out to be?

Not having a go at you personally, by the way (there's more than you who think he's not good enough for us; your initial opinion was a bit blunt and, for me, unfair).
