Then again, if 4 of our 6 or so midfielders were struck out, Pep would probably play Bravo and Carson there to keep them fresh, just in case.

He is the back up goalkeeper ffs! If he never plays, what happens if our keeper goes down in an important game? He’s trying to get him game time in the Vup games, because he needs him in his game if he is ever needed.

And what happens if we suffer injuries to the Silvas and Gundogan? Or when we have a fixture pile-up, surely he should be playing games to be ready and sharp for those, right? Pep simply doesn't trust him despite all his protests that he does. It's the exact situation as Garcia, in a completely terrible defence Rodri has started the same number of games at CB as he has. Ultimately the kid is never going to forge a career here and Foden is only sticking it out because he's a City fan. We have a real problem bridging the gap and there's no point making excuses for every single individual case of it happening.

And we're still having the same arguments as when he was 17.

Who'd have thought that when Pep told everyone that he was now 100% a member of the first team squad, he'd only have started 5 league games in the following 3 season.

Now that David Silva will be leaving us at the end of the season, is this the time for Phil Foden to finally shine and stake his place in the first team. If it is not does he need to play more games coming off from the bench, before he stakes his place in the 1st team.

There was an article by Jonathan Northcroft in this week's Sunday Times making the point that Pep may be getting a reputation as a manager who blocks the progress of emerging talent.

It was obviously a bit of a dig at Pep, but his main point was that there's no reason why Foden shouldn't start most of our Premier League games between now and the end of the season; the title has gone, David Silva is going, we are virtually guaranteed a top four finish.

I can't see any reason (other than injury or suspension) why Foden doesn't start every Premier League game from now on in. If he doesn't he needs to consider a loan, this is a crucial period in his development and he needs to be playing. Pep needs to back up his glowing assessment of Foden with game time.

Absolutely it is and my one criticism of Pep is its all good and well telling us how much he is the future etc but he should be starting games now.

If Pep is thinking of starting Merlin he should instead start Phil and let the magician come off the bench.

If he’s shown he’s worthy of a start during the previous weeks training then yes, it would be great to see him start and shine.

Nobody has stood out for us this season in midfield, even Kev has been below par on occasion but his assists and vision make up for that. With a decent cushion to fifth place I believe he is worth a place. We have plenty of options on the bench if it isn't working, let's give him a run.
