Phil goes missing when the team plays shite, needs to pull his socks up and get a grip

Not a trait I would associate with him prior to this season to be fair. He's won us plenty of games with moments of brilliance in the past. Something isn't right at the moment though for sure, I'd like to see Pep gas him up a bit in a press conference, I think he'd respond well to that. Think he's the sort that wants an arm round the shoulder rather than a kick up the arse.

Personally I think he's mentally and physically burnt out.

He has nothing left in the tank, obviously his form has dipped and he looks way off it..

Maybe pep is keeping him back to be ready and raring to go after new year or maybe he's just had a bad run of illness and niggling injuries.

He put a hell of a lot into last season and was carrying the team towards the end, then went in to the Euros with big expectations but for whatever reason simply did not look the player he did in our shirt.

And since the euros he looks a shell of the player that ripped up the league last season, hopefully it's just a reaction and nothing more is going on in his life.

What you talking about? He was brilliant last year. That was potential realised in my opinion. He's never going to be Messi. No one is.

Yes hes way off this year but so is everyone. He'll come good again.

Blowing hot and cold like he does simply isn’t good enough for a top top level elite player like he has the potential to be.

Just a reminder that last season he won the PFA's Premier League Player of the Season, the Premier League's Player of the Season, and the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year. Now, just 6 months later, and after a stop start season due to injury and illness, along with being one of the players who started the season later due to his involvement in the Euros up to and including the final, people are writing him off.

I fucking despair at times!
They’re not writing him off. They’re saying he’s been shit this season because he’s been shit this season. It’s not a witch hunt it’s an observation.

And I’m saying that his season has been disrupted by injury and illness. Once he gets back into it, he’ll be better. In any case, he’s only about 3 months into the season, given the time off he had following the Euros.

I’ll also add that it seems some fans have written him off, even saying Cole Palmer is the better player. While that’s true on current form, it’s like some people have forgotten all the years that Foden has ripped up trees.

Why even bring him if he's not able to play ten minutes? He wasn't deemed sick enough to get others ill.

There was a giant hole in that RCM spot for him to get shots off.
Who can figure anything out with this squad at the moment. Things have been moving a bit strange for a bit, that's for sure.

Has he been tho? He's actually not been anything...

You’re talking about different people. He’s talking about the ones that are writing him off, not the ones that are saying he’s been shit this season.

Exactly.

Hot and cold, and he has been for some time.

It isn’t good enough. We need consistency from Phil. He should be driving the team forwards right now.

Frankly, a bit like with Jack I’m not sure I totally buy the constant non-specific injuries and illnesses.
Other than this season, I can’t think of any other time in which he’s been on and off. When he was breaking through, he was outstanding and then he started to mature and had his best season yet last season.

As someone said in the Grealish thread, this was his chance to step up and show he's the future. So many players not firing that it was his chance to be the go to player. Not sure what his problems are, but this was the time when we needed him.
