I still blame Southgate. All went wrong when he was coached by him.

Phil needs a break that’s all
Blame the player. Playing a little out of position should not and would not make the player of the year in the prem turn to shite overnight. There is a lot more going on.

He’s definitely soft, as he goes down like he’s been shot almost every game
Dead right - yeah, I suppose we really need 10x Vinnie Jones :-(

I love it how a poster makes a suggestion, then the player is slagged off as though he himself used it as an excuse.

There are tennis players, rugby players and athletes who've all worn preventative bandaging throughout their entire careers. Who cares?

Everybody agrees that Phil's been crap throughout this season, apart from a little flourish when he still contributed what will probably prove to be a decisive number of points with a few goals. You could say this (apart from the goals) about most of the players.

His superb previous performances weren't generally the result of individual flashes of brilliance, but instead because of him dovetailing perfectly into Pep's team ethic. There were many games earlier this year when he was trying to get things going - immediately looking forward when recieving - but finding no movement from those around him. I remember Bernardo doing the same thing, often. After this happened so many times, it's only natural that Phil lost that natural instinct to clock everybody's position before getting the ball and to beat a player with his first touch like he used to.

I hope he doesn't get within 100 miles of the CWC - a summer off and then help to bring the new players into the fold.

He stayed here when he wasn't playing often and when he could have walked into any other PL team - he wants City to succeed as much as anybody on here.

Yeah, not bothered about his bandage or saying he should be Vinnie Jones mate. I’m on about how often he goes rolling about as if he’s got a really bad injury only to be absolutely fine if he doesn’t get the free kick or the ball happens to come back to where he’s lay in a heap. Hated seeing it from other team players and i don’t like it from one of ours. Admittedly i do now find it quite amusing these days as we all go he’ll be fine in about 10 seconds when he gets the ball again.

If illness is Phil's problem I don't understand why Pep keeps trying to shoehorn him into the side ? We have had others out long term so just give the guy chance to recuperate.
Another example of Pep making bizarre selection decisions this season ?
Well we don't know what's wrong or been wrong or where he's at now so we can't have the faintest idea whether it's bizarre or not.

I agree with that - I hate players doing it too, especially City players.

Before VAR it could come back to haunt them too, with many a valid penalty shout being ignored cos they'd cried wolf too often.

Remember how Foden created a chance for himself against Inter in the final. Been around 75 min and its been magnificent play by Phil, so shame the shot was a little worse. He made it at such a big stage, he has it in him. To take a risk, cant recall when he even tried something similar this season. Need his confidence back. Probably some less football factors, but its not an excuse for him. He could be world class again. Still so young, yet so experienced. On the bright side been a little better last game.

What is Foden lacking to make us desperate to sign Wirtz? Wasn't he supposed to replace KdB?

Maybe Foden lacks the vision to be a proper No 10. Even when he was at his best last season he didn't contribute many assists. Apparently, he's more of a forward than a midfielder. Still, Pep may try him next to Wirtz should we sign the latter.

Foden lacks a lot when it comes to an old school no10, I genuinely can’t remember a single time in the last couple years he’s put through Haaland like KDB does. Foden will be moved to right wing once Wirtz hopefully comes in mainly because of that reason. Hes not creative enough to be a no10 behind Haaland. I think he’d be very good as a right wing cutting in tbh his shooting and close control is world class, but once again as a creative CAM he’s not great at all.

He’s performance against Arsenal at the emirates was a disgrace tbh. First gave the ball away under no pressure for the second goal, but the worst part for me was Haaland was getting dogs abuse by those dirty Arsenal fans (worst fanbase in England btw) and even players like Lewis Skelly and co were taking the piss out of him on the pitch, Foden the absolute coward never once did anything to support Haaland. Thats not how Champions act. He shys away from conflict way too much. It’s annoying as a fan because he has so much talent, but he’s personality lets him down a lot

Are you ok? Why do you hate Foden for stupid reasons? Can you name one player that day that stood up to anyone? We lacked any sort of backbone so I find it strange you single out a younger lad to take the lead. Rewatch Atletico away a few years ago, he didn't shy away that night. He has had a bad season, 100% there is no defence and quite clearly there are issues outside of football having an impact. You have written him off as a CAM which is your opinion and you might be right on but who knows, given a chance and a run in his favoured position may prove fruitful

Seems like he hates half the squad based on some of his responses here. Singling out Foden on that day filled with mediocre performances is funny.

Nonsense

The England manager gets barely anytime to coach anything out of a player or into a player. What's the longest period they get with them? 3 or 4 weeks every two years during a tournament, then a week here and there throughout a season.

All an international manager does is set up a team and manage games and tactics.

I don't see any other England players affected by the manager that much.

Just a lazy excuse rather than figuring out what the real problem is.

His confidence must be low after the season he’s had but the bigger issue is clearly a physical one.Nonsense to blame Southgate for Phil not being able to run for 12 months
