47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Disappointed for him as I think most City fans would be. But this could be a massive fork in the road for him that could hopefully lead to him becoming the consistent top tier player Pep is convinced he has in him.

Bet he’s quietly relieved as well, after the last tournament with England. Hope he gets the rest he needs this summer mentally and comes back fighting next season. And fuck England who gives a fuck. Rather City won the league than England win anything.

I feel sorry as he will feel it without a doubt. He has more natural talent than the midfielder picked put together. However he cannot have any complaints. Tommy gave him enough opportunity and for a combination of reasons he didn't take it. I hope he uses it as fuel to light his performance in the new season. Hope the lad has a good summer and comes back refreshed.

It's good that he's not going. Those worried that missing out will knock his confidence further need to keep in mind that his fall off came straight off the back of England's last tournament.

He can't be scapegoated and he can work on whatever he needs to work on. I say do a Stephen Ireland and go do karate in the mountains or something.

It's also a bit of a win either way (of sorts). If not going ends up knocking his confidence that much, it at least gives us some closure that he's likely done as a top level footballer. The very best don't respond to adversity like that.

I've said before and still maintain that Phil is someone who should have a contract for as long as he wants one, and be given every opportunity possible to get back to being a mainstay of this team. No-one hopes more than I that he can now use this summer to get back to that level.

Like most have said, I don't think it's such a bad thing but who knows? Maybe it'll affect him badly. But if he's got an elite mentality, then it should give him the fire to show them.

I think it's a fair decision. Tommy kept picking him for the squad even when he was barely getting a kick for us, gave him every chance to show him something and he didn't show enough. I don't think anyone can have any complaints.

Giving him a new contract was wrong imo. You don’t know if this destroys him even more or not

Phil has dodged a bullet because this is the weakest England squad I can remember. And Tuchel is useless. They will be humiliated. He’s well out of it.

Tuchel said that it was really hard to leave Foden out as he was very impressive in the last camp and it was very hard to make the call to tell him

Hopefully Foden will take this in the right spirit as he hasn't been good enough or consistent enough this season.

If it's an injury/illness issue I hope he gets the best advice and treatment, relaxes and then comes back determined to show his qualities which we know he possesses.

Maybe Maresco can be a different inspiration and support for him,

Whatever he is too good a player to let this crush him, and tbh I don't see the England team being the best place for him for a number of reasons.

If Maresco plays two holders as he has done before it might create a new slot for Phil just behind Erling.

Pep also played him even when he was clearly out of form. I still think Pep probably prefers him to Cherki in the 10 role. It’s sad because around October, November last year, it looked like he was getting back to his best.

Its down to him now to decide how much he wants it, his manager that has made him what he is, is now leaving. He has been dropped fully from the national team.

We all need to play our part in backing him.
