47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

So glad he's back on form.
The one player who we feel a connection to more than any other.
The shining light from the academy.
A blue.
One of us.
Always thought he was special.
Different.
A level above other young lads.

Last year was a dip.
But he's getting through that.
Showing some fight.
He plays for our shirt.
His shirt.
He's one of us.

If he gets to be half as good as el mago he will be some player.

This boy will be the most decorated player we've ever had.
And if he stays with his team he could be the most decorated English player ever .
Just won't be played in his best position for England cos we have to play rags in his place.
Fuck England.
Up the blues.
And well done Phil fodens on fire

Half turn good but Merlin ;-)
I've been going to city since 1984.
No player in that time has been close to el mago.
Half turn.
First touch.
Control.
And generally been a football god.
David Silva controlled the game from kick off till the last minute.
Literally dictated play for the whole game.
And in between that he did things that weren't normal.
He played passes that were not on.

Phil foden is the closest I've seen to el mago.
That's how good I think Phil could be.
But he has a long way to go

Weird game. I thought he was both excellent and yet also a bit shit. His movement into the pockets was great, his front-footed approach was a joy to see. Looked inventive and dangerous but a fuck tonne of what he tried didnt come off, moved into dead ends too much, gave the ball away a lot in positions where he had most of the team ahead of the ball, you just can't do that even though we largely got away with it.

Great tonight, just keep him as close to Haaland as we can.

Inches away from multiple assists, despite having a defender or 2 constantly swarming him.

I know what you mean he wasn’t clinical tonight. We need his G/A. But its a joy to watch him driving the team forwards and trying to make it happen even if it don’t. Seeing him taking the ball on the half turn again.

I think the best way of describing his performance is to say it was an 18yr old phil foden performance. Fearless, lively and keen to make his mark but also a bit naive with his game at times. I expect the negative parts to be shaken off and corrected next game but very glad to see the positive aspects again.

He struggles to play the final pass, he needs to start racking up assists, it shouldn't be that hard with Haaland as your striker, if he can't do it maybe Cherki can.

Left out of England squad, I'm happy with that, he's probably not, he will go to the finals.
There are a few baffling selections and omissions in that squad, I imagine by the spring internationals leading to the WC the squad will look quite different

To be fair, he asked not to be considered im June. You can’t just stroll back in after that.

Maybe he asked again not to be considered.

I think Phils been miss profiled, he's always been profiled as the Davild Silva type when he's not that he's more Frank Lampard/ Gundo. His best season wasn't because of his assists it was goals. Constantly getting into scoring positions with his movement. I dont think we should be looking at assists for phil more his goals.

He's much more Lampard than Silva or to compare him to another former player Gundo. Best games this season he's scored in because he arrives to finish of a move or gets in the right position. He can assist like Gundo could but his best ability is getting into the right positions in the box and his finishing. Or his long shots from outside the box.

He's more of a goal scorer than assister

Yes and I've always said he's a world class second striker but not a world class 10.

Yea very happy with it and yea no worries about him making the squad at this stage. Hopefully the break does him good and he carries on as he's playing now. Not getting in the england squad might motivate him further if anything and hopefully we see that as early as Sunday

He didn’t pull out he wasn’t nominated

I think it's a mutual decision personally, I am reading between the lines a bit granted. But if Tuchel can say I didnt select him then the press can't run with 'City cheat Foden refuses the call of the nation' or some other bollocks. He walks in that squad on form, especially with Palmer injured and Bellingham out.

I have to be honest and say I was hoping he’d be called up as palmer and Bellingham are out and it would have been good to see if he fits better in the team without them. But better he’s rested in good form then called up, doesn’t perform and has his confidence destroyed again.
