47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Every game when he plays he gets targeted from the start…….no wonder he gets injured….
No one targeted him. Stop making delusional statements. Van de Ven got the ball and hit him. It’s not like it was the hardest tackle we’ve ever seen. The excuses for Foden are getting hilarious. Don’t know what’s going on but it’s troublesome at this point. He’s been like rhat since his horrible display in the euros.

Yeah he should play injured then hey! Some fans have it in for Foden for some reason! Back him

If he is actually injured it isn't an excuse is it. My worry is it is something more as I hadn't seen any doubts over him playing then all of a sudden not in the squad. He can't be called out until he plays though surely. He hasn't started a game yet but we do need him and the Phil we know. He can't have another year like last season.

Big season. Needs to step up and be the same kind of leader Kev was. He’ll be in that position where the King dragged us to win after win by pure determination and quality. That now rests on Foden’s shoulders IMO.

Need another 23/24 season.

The state of this thread

It's just frustration causing people to say all sorts.

The frustration coming from the fact he's ridiculously gifted and we are not getting to see it.

All the talk of other teams signing these excellent players yet we arguably have a better one right under our noses, one that came through our Academy, but we can't seem to get a decent game from him at the moment and haven't for a year now.

If he wasn't so good, this thread wouldn't be a mess.

You admit to having a negative outlook whilst the op has an insidious and underhand style of critique when commenting on the club and personnel.

There’s 2 extremes really. There’s people moaning about a great block tackle and making out he’s fouled as much as prime Messi or facing 2 footers each week like skillful players were in the 90’s. Then there are others wanting to believe he’s too busy going to his classy nights like the Tommy Fury premiere to play. The truth is probably he was a bit unlucky that the great tackle just injured him.

Not particularly this match but in previous over the past few seasons..

I don't think that's fair. He's not even really a playmaker in that sense, both in personality and ability, he's too instinctive for that.

Cherki is the KDB replacement for me, he has absolute ice in veins and self-confidence. Whether he'll be good enough, time will tell.

I am getting increasingly concerned about Phil’s absence from the matchday squad, is there something going on we don’t know about? I was glad he was rested from the meaningless Club World Cup, but I thought he would be fully match-fit and ready to tear the Premier League apart from day one. Where is he, and why?

Am getting concerned of Man City fans that don’t know he has an injury and we all saw the tackle we also know he has had problems with his ankle foot last season that kept him out

I hope I'm wrong on this

But I dunno why I get the sense of his career is stalling out and going downwards like Mario Balotelli.

And Balotelli was one we universally loved and wished would have a long career at City but then came the off the field stuff and the dip in performance.

Ofcourse Phil has had much higher highs and I really hope he can get back to that.. but just a feeling.. something isn't right!

I'm really hoping he turns it around and makes a real come back to the player he was.. and as Pep often says.. there are ups and downs in a career. What happens is how you react to the downs and you work hard to get it up again that differentiates the truly great players from the flash in the pan good ones.

I'm worried he's got health issues, hope I'm wrong.

Don’t think he’s saying that mate but you’ve got to admit their is somthing not right with foden atm . Last season he was terrible var a few moments but this season I thought he started very well and looked like he he old Phil again but now another injury and he looks fed up .

Not for me fans wants answers for one year of a dip! Last season it was combination of a lot of things catching up with him! Playing so many games over last 5 years England situation, reports of mental health plus his injury catching op with him! This season it injures! If he didn’t get that tackle on his foot and it’s was bad, he would have started the last game I’ve no doubt! Some Fans don’t seem that very considerate or empathy..

Christ, I don't often read these threads, but this one is particularly bad. A bit like the Guardiola one in that it's just a small group of moaners repeating the same bollocks, only I guess because Phil is a local lad there's a lot more vitriol. He's injured. He's been carrying an ankle injury for a while. He had finally gotten fit but the tackle from Van de Ven in the Spurs game re-injured it. It's really not controversial and doesn't require conspiracy theories akin to QAnon.

It's worth remembering that everyone from Khaldoon to Soriano to Pep himself see Phil as the reference point for the entire CFA. All the kids who are coming through who dream of playing at City are pointed in the direction of Phil's journey.
