47 | Phil Foden - 2025/26

Watched the game from pitch level behind the goal. Foden was mint in a very tough game. No need for anyone to make excuses for him.

His first touch, and first time passing superb.
I was just behind goal we attacked in 2nd half, after the game we were chatting to a group of Forest fans in the pub, they thought he was incredible. World class in their opinion.
As you say it was very physical, tight spaces.
I suppose alot of fans just don't realise how difficult it is, especially in these tough away games.

Stood up tall second half I thought. No end product but drove the team forward and didn’t shirk away from having the ball. Made a difference in team tempo and attacking.
He had a very strong shot from a difficult position which was very well saved by their goalie. Another day, that goes in and it's a stonking finish

Without Doku, it’s clear Pep wants O’Reilly playing up the left flank and Foden tucking in as an inside forward. However, we have been so careless with possession lately that we are constantly having to turn around and run back towards our own goal. Therefore, O’Reilly is back at left back and nobody is on the left wing so Foden has to move out a bit but because O’Reilly isn’t up supporting him we’re a body light in midfield and this is where we’ve been struggling.

Don’t get me wrong, Foden was as guilty as anyone at being careless with possession and giving the ball away in the first half yesterday, but this is why the shape of our attacks aren’t good and we look a bit disjointed at the moment.

If we realised that the football is the most important thing in this sport and we should cherish it like it’s sacred, in other words, stop fucking giving the ball away needlessly, we could get into our shape more in attack and Foden would be able to play more centrally as O’Reilly holds the left flank and Gvardiol covers the left back area.
Careless is harsh.

We had an overload at the back in the first half because Forest came out a bit differently. It meant that we were low on options in the middle because Forest had a big advantage.

I’ve noticed that. Our academy players on here get absolutely rinsed at times. Barely any patience shown - if they aren’t good enough straight away, they never will be.

Yet some of our signings, who cost ridiculously high amounts get time and patience.
It doesn’t matter if the players are signings or academy graduates, they aren’t safe from internet trolls. Any City player should be given the time, how many players have been written off over the years to eventually become good players?

Shocking tonight
Was he? He lost the ball in midfield a couple of times, but who gives a shit? Everyone was losing it.

He put it on a plate for Haaland and Savinho. The bar is low, but I thought he was better than the rest of our attackers.

Tell me 1 positive thing he did tonight, severa times couldnt control ball, too often turned and went backwards, offered nothing

Did you not see Haaland's chance in the first half that he shot directly at their keeper? Or the through ball to Savinho to get him 1v1 with the keeper in the second half?

Much like our home game versus Sunderland. They absolutely stack the midfield and force everything out wide. We needed more from our wingers and or Haaland.

He played like Bernie tonight. Ultra negative and next to nothing came off. 2 x Bernie on the pitch is something nobody wants to see.

Piss poor today.

Precisely why fans of other teams don't hold him in the same regard as City fans. You can't blame them in a way.

Way too inconsistent and puts in a fair few performances like this one.

If another clubs supposed prodigious home grown talent put in these kind of performances, we would be the first to say they're overhyping them.

Very talented. Not world class.

He definitely had some big game passes, no doubt about it, should have had an assist.

But his general play was so bad on the ball, loses the ball too much.

He's been either bang average or atrocious in every single away game bar Fulham and Palace, I'd bench for our next away game because it's been too many now.
