Why is it weird? The cause of plantar fasciitis is not entirely clear. Risk factors include overuse, such as from long periods of standing, an increase in exercise.

He is a footballer and uses his feet a lot, exercises a lot etc., so is at risk.

Having suffered from it myself I can tell you it is EXTREMELY painful, especially first thing in the morning. It does ease a little over the day but he will have the best medical advice I reckon.

Yes I know what it is and have also had it myself. Its usually an indication of another primary issue which is why I said weird.

As I understand this condition needs rest. If he returns too soon it can lead to other problems e.g. back pain as those with this condition adjust their weight balance when walking and exercising to overcome the pain in the heel area of his foot. John has history of back problems.

Needs of the team may mean he will have to play through the pain. The adrenaline of a match will probably see him through a game but the pain after could be bad.
