5 | John Stones - 2025/26

One of our modern day legends and hes won the lot with us and got loads of England caps. Quite a career. Funny charmismatic guy too so would do well as a pundit. He’ll retire after the WC i think. He’s already spoken out about his injuries have effected him mentally.

Could have been one of the greatest defenders in the world if injuries hadn't ruined him.

It maybe time to pay him up. Maybe offer him coaching training to develop a new career. Unless he wants to try and find another club. Even with his injury record some would have him.
Not having a go at you..but I do dislike the way we as fans talk of our injured footballers.
Made of glass.. particularly gets me angry.
John Stones is not made of effing glass. He is a strong rugged old school centre half
Who in his time with Barnsley Everton City and England has put his body on the line ,straining every sinew in his body to ....Defend.

I can't remember the team against who he made the miraculous goal line clearance..was it Liverpool? ......Centre backs take so much punishment,so many blows, I'm proud of John Stones and what he has achieved at City,I'm very impressed with his silky passing skills and technique..but.he has always ,to me, also done the basics of a traditional centre half
Hard in the challenge, never ever wimping out of a tackle, strong in the air, refused to be bullied on the ground and no slouch in sprinting to cover ground..

Injuries are gonna happen......I think back to Denis Smith at Stoke city, their captain for over a decade in the 70s....broke every bone in his body defending his team.....was he " made of glass"?

We should not disrespect brave centre backs who have put their bodies on the line for City, never caused any off field issues, consummate Professional football player.
Hard as nails.
I still think there is life in the old dog yet.......he has earned that Lee way
A fantastic Defender. Great player. One of the best I've ever seen play the game.

While a smidge OTT, it’s a fair point about players. Some punters would have given their left bollock for a shot at being a pro…well, everyone that’s made it has!!!

People sometimes forget just how good you have to be to play for club and country for a decade, but it’s every day, on the field and off the field, and it’s the rare guy who can piss on the sacrifices needed and still make a butty.

John has been a great defender for City, and his legacy has only been spoiled by the injuries he has sustained. Sadly, not everyone is made to be a bulletproof warrior, but some are. John has made the most of his skills and whenever fit has been an excellent servant to the shirt. One can ask for no more.

As for his private life and personality, apart from one rather public relationship, he seems to have been a model pro and one of the boys in the locker room others enjoy. That alone is testament to his professionalism, because your peers, esp on an international dressing room, can be a tough taskmaster. They know (and see) who is who and what is what, and I’ve never heard a bad word said about his in the workplace.

Wish him nothing but the best, but it feels like City have made their decision and he will be playing elsewhere or enjoying his post-WC retirement in short order.

Currently on 813 minutes this season, which, at this stage, is actually an improvement on last year’s disappointing tally of 1,134.

We’ll presumably learn more in the coming days, but, in the meantime, it might be prudent to involve Khusanov more. He’s been available for 5 games and hasn’t played, and if Stones is out for any length of time and Dias gets injured, he’s next off the rank. Better get him primed.

He will always be the Barnsley Beckenbauer to me.

While he isn't that old for a CB and is english so makes no problem for squad planning... I do think we just move on and dont extend.

Like yes, there is also little harm in extending and having that experience as a backup, but at the same time that means taking minutes away from Khus or Reis who are our future, and will need minutes.
