5 Trophies

I am hoping that Pellegrini is an improvement on Mancini tactically in Europe and we at least get last 16/ last 8 this season to keep the owners happy.

I'm not disagreeing with the fact that last 16/8 would keep the owners happy, as well as most fans, but it's strange that this should be the case. It's basically saying that we accept there are 7 teams definitely better than us, and another 8 who are about the same. That being the case, why do most people view the last two years so negatively? Last season we were certainly in a group with two of the top 7 teams, and the year before Bayern were one of the top teams and Napoli were at least one of the top 16. If we'd gone out to any of those teams in the round of 16/8 after getting out of an easy group, I suspect most people would have been pretty happy.

If we'd lost to United in the FA Cup semi in 2011 (after an easy draw to that point), would that have been any better than losing to them the next season in the 3rd round round?

I understand that getting further in the CL means more points for future seeding and more money and more positive publicity, but in terms of judging the team performance, if you're not expecting the win the whole thing, it's all about when you happen to come up against a team that's better than you. If that's in the group stages, it shouldn't be any more damning than going out to the same team in the last 8.

And just to answer the "Ajax" argument before it's mentioned - we were dreadful against them away and not good in the early part of the game at home, but would the criticisms of our performances in the CL really be that much less if we'd beaten them twice and still gone out?

At least two titles have to come in the next 5 years or its a big failure
Three domestic cups to add would be great
Just don't know if we could win the champs league in the next five years
Would like a semi or final though.

In the next five years, would you take one european cup, one league title, two fa cups, and one league cup?
Yes I would.

The European Cup is not a panacea for other failings, but it would form a big part of the 'project' and provide what were once unimaginable memories to take to the grave.

Given my record of always landing tickets to pretty much all of City's big games in the last 32 years, I reckon I've got a pretty good shout of being there too :-)

Providing all our players are highly motivated then it is not as far fetched as it sounds.

Once we've hit our straps I'd expect much of trophy haul tbh. One this coming season is a must. After that we should be nailing them in twos and threes.

The prem defines how good a team is. All the other trophies are a bit of a lottery - both Liverpool and Chelsea have won CL with pretty average sides recently.

However, if we won the next five prems and bombed out in CL and other cups would that be success or failure? The press would have a massive go at us.

I'll take the OP tally now - where can we sign up?

If it came down to the premier league or the champions league trophies, I'd personally take the premier league every time.

Thats not a lack of ambition on my part, its where I think our priority should always lie, and its realistic to expect that we won't win the CL, so if you offered me 4 or 5 league titles and nothing else I'd take it.

Obviously our owner wants to win the champions league, but if you look at winners over the last 10 years only 1 club has won it twice, Barcelona, and the list of winners doesn't include some pretty big european clubs (Real Madrid for instance). So on that trophy I'm realistic, and I don't "expect" to win it at all. Clearly I'd like to win it.

As for the other two domestic trophies, I see them (sadly as they were once our only hope) a bonus to add to the main two.

I'm not sure what the 5th trophy is, if its the community shield I don't much care at all. If its the European club cup, or the world thing, then we would have had to have won one of the other European trophies, so that would be good.

Every time?

Wouldn't you want to win it just once?
