50 years ago today - a first for Maine Road

I think my cousin went to the David Cassidy gig. She was absolutely mad about him.

My sister saw Cassidy at Maine Road. I got a better deal as I saw the Stones there in about 1990.

I was told that this was the 1st time that other than Wembley that a football stadium in the uk was used to hold a concert. Did google it but cant find any evidence of it and seeing as Billy Graham held one of his many evangelical meeting at Maine Road in the early 60s you'd have thought someone would have thought it a great idea way before david Cassidy concert. Anyone have any idea if its true

I wrote a letter to the club when they announced there was going to be a concert suggesting The Who as they'd previously done a huge gig at Charlton Athletic's Valley ground.

The letter was printed in the West Ham home game programme, basically saying tough shit it's gonna be Cassidy haha

Must've been big because Charlton had over 75k for a match against Villa in the 30s.

I was in the North Stand which looks almost as empty as it was for the 10-1!

This was two days after Cassidy's White City concert in London when nearly 800 people were injured in the crush at the front of the stage and one girl tragically died 4 days after that concert after failing to regain consciousness. It might have been his last ever tour during his teen idol days.
