52 | Oscar Bobb - 2025/26

Oscar is the least of our issues so far this season. I for one am not worried about him - just concerned that we suddenly have a defence that is adverse to physically winning individual battles. They were powder puff yesterday and were slow to deliver passes in front of the midfielders.

Great touch. Works hard. But did he ever look like creating a clear cut chance yesterday?
Basically created the chance where Haaland failed to find Cherki. Also had one moment where he cut in and found Reijnders centrally where Rej should have just rolled it to Marmoush. But not a fantastic game from Bobb either. I'd still say he was the best of the frontline, all though Haaland had a decent first-half

Saying Doku has "no football iq whatsoever" is like saying "Bobb has no pace whatsoever". No, Doku has good IQ otherwise he wouldnt play for City and same goes for Bobb pace. Its just that Doku's biggest standout attribute is pace and Bobb's standout attribute is IQ. As I said, some level headedness is desperately needed here, but to have that you need to get rid of the double standards for academy and non academy players, and valuing one attribute (say IQ) more highly than another (pace). They have equal value and they are both fantastic players. The problem once again is the system.
I am not sure what your point is? Are you saying someone like Doku is at a similiar stage for us as Bobb? Because there is certainly a big gap in terms of the pool of performances to judge by. I don't dislike Doku, I also think he might become a lot better than he is now at some stage but I also think his contribution on the pitch has not justified the minutes he has received which has damaged our performances. Bobb, who I might think similiar of in the future has so far mostly shown that he is a player that should play more.

It is also well and good saying one player has this stand-out attribute, and the other has this but this is true for every player though. Whether or not it makes them effective footballers is the issue. A lot of players have "pace" as their stand-out attribute whilst playing on a lot lower level whilst also delivering a lot better numbers than Doku for worse teams than us.

David Silva was also too small and too slow - yet he was one of our greatest ever, Oscar Bobb has the same kind of of ability and intelligence, he also works very hard for the team is excellent at pressing, the wing is not his natural position, but he was still our best player today because he has creativity and very rarely loses the ball, would love to see him get a game in the 10 position
I was just thinking of that comparison with Merlin. Bobb has had an excellent start to the season and was one of the few bright parts of a dull day last Saturday. He is still coming back from a bad injury and has of course limited experience. IMO he is one of the last players we should be worried about at the minute.

The criticism of Bobb is downright absurd on here. No doubt the same people that slowly started calling Rodri "Plodri" in his first season. Incredible talent and the stuff he is good at is incredibly hard to find.
He’s about as effective as your namesake was.

You fall into the trap of thinking that because one kid comes through the ranks and becomes top class (Foden) then all the others are worth persevering with. Phil was the outlier.

Bobb’s Bob

Don't know where this myth has come from that he's incredible. Where has he backed that up apart from the goal against Newcastle?
He has a lot of promise but let's wait and see eh? Very poor today.

Weasel of a footballer

Nice touch and bits of trickery, but it's actually laughable that he's a starting winger for us
