He's a proper defender, first and foremost, and that's what our backline was missing last season.

When he's not playing CB, I think he has to be our starting LB - especially with Mendy out injured (and I would have him playing over him anyway).

Walker - Dias - Laporte - Ake is our strongest defensive line up in years imo and the fact that having Ake means there's not a massive issue when Laporte is out is such a huge benefit to this side.
 
such a better option at let back than having mendy there - ok we lose Mendy's potential attacking ability (though there has been little evidence that he ever produces that on a regular basis anyway) but having Ake there defensively just makes such a differene.

Mendy even after he returns from his latest injury should struggle to get back in the team...hopefully that will result in him and the club looking to move on

Ake's performances so far have been very very solid

If we plan on using wingbacks more often mendy and cancelo could be very useful

Mendy isnt useful in any scenario. It might be that pep wants to play that way but all baring cancello do not have the full list of qualities...

Walker - great defender but not geat at the attacking part
Mendy - shit defensively...average going forward
Ake- great defensively but as alluded to not great aa a wing back...pep maybe able to work his magic on him however
 
Really like him. Seems genuinely pleasant but he's also been bloody good so far. He's perfect for peps inverted left back role coming inside to play DM, but also very happy to have him as one of the centre halves.
 
Looking the part in blue, very composed , good reader of the game, nothing but positives
