So pleased we kept him, Ake if he can keep fit will play plenty of games this season and not let anyone down.

Very good last night. He should probably be in the starting XI against West Ham given that he’s had more of a pre-season than the others, and is looking sharp. Really glad we kept him.

He definitely should be based on his performances in the absence of laporte and stones. Laporte is injured so I have some sympathy for his position. Stones body is his professional responsibility and he has decided he knows better than medical science. Probably defers to the experts as far as sports science, but his gf knows more about vaccinations than doctors and academics.

A fourth choice as good as Ake has the carrot of climbing the pecking order dangled Infront of him to keep him happy. He's happy to be "fourth choice" because it's possible he could become 2nd choice. If he's not earned the right to start the season alongside Dias, he never will and we aren't genuine with the mantra of competition for places.

Never really rated Ake before he joined and thought he was over priced , but didnt take into account the Pep effect , he is looking every inch a top quality centre back and will push the other three centre backs all the way , best defender on the pitch in a match involving two of the best teams in europe.

Very happy he stayed. Apart from Dias, he is probably our best pure defender (Stones is better all around in the Pep system, but I think Nathan is slightly the better defender).

I know it will not happen, but would love to see Doyle back as 5th choice, giving us Dias, Stones, Laporte, Ake, and Doyle for rotation (and allowing us to play a 5–3-1-1 on occasions where playing wingbacks with Haaland up front and Alvarez just behind disrupts the opposition setup (perhaps in certain CL matches).

Chelsea have been made to look like fools. Could have had a player with PL experience, leader, etc.

I'm glad Txiki priced him out of a move. They recognize his importance.

Where did you get their medical reports from?

Apart from the deflection, very good. Dias more worrying. Glad we kept Ake
Must have watched a different game from me. The guy is all over the show. Defends like he did at Bournemouth and is worse than Lescott in possession. Where this idea that he is a ball-playing CB came from I will never know. Wasn’t good enough when we bought him and is no better now.

Nobody will ever convince me that we did the right thing not getting our money back on him. Worryingly I fear he will be starting for the the 1st month of the season.

As for Dias…can’t be paired with Ake. It’s by far our worst pairing. Dias is a great defender. Not great on the ball. Ake is no good full stop.

No Ake, no PL title 2022

Best pass completion on the team...

Agreed very slow on ball and passing bellow average.

Best pass completion on the team...
To be balanced though most of his passes were too slow and Liverpool enjoyed letting him be the free man. We thrive on quick passing and especially now having a striker who makes early run after run. It would be easy to ramp up your stats when only one of his many passes was actually progressive. Early days but the back four was like a dog's hind leg - Hope John gets fit soon because Ruben is a much better player alongside him.

Eventhough he can be suspect defensively, but we already missing Laporte. Ake is not bad today but Laporte will be much better and driving the ball forward from the back.

He’s the player opposition teams will be quite happy to funnel possession to and then apply the squeeze.

Seems to be very much a confidence player and improved when he got the diving header back to Ederson in the first half.

100%. The only thing that might save us is that there are very teams that press as well as Liverpool. That being said we need Stones and/or Laporte back sharpish, because if we have to go prolonged periods with Ake in the side people will soon see why he should now be at Chelsea.
