6th Richest Country in the World?

I love the UK - used to love it even more. But I have to say I think parts of Oz are wonderful. Sydney and Melbourne in particular. I would actually move there in a heartbeat were it not so expensive... and if they had good pubs ;-)

The reason I’ve given loads of stuff to kids I’ve taught (Ancoats, Gorton, Wythenshawe) is almost exclusively down to shit / non-existent parenting.
And the reason my missus gives out a few presents each year is because the kids come from desperately poor backgrounds. Has fuck all to do with bad parenting, and I know because she tells me so.

That’s great to hear. Sounds like the parents of the children she teaches are tiptop. My experience is different.

I was at church this morning and after the service helped set out tables for the breakfast club being run all week and through the summer hols.

If we are such a rich country, why do so many kids need charity to feed them breakfast? Presumably, if it wasn't for the church, they would get nowt. Why is it necessary for the church to run a food bank too, and to be constantly on the scrounge for donations?

It's like Victorian times, or certainly no better. Private affluence, public squalour.
