7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

World class gets banded about far too much and that’s just another example. Aguero, David Silva, KDB were world class. Very few players currently in the Premier League are world class. 2 or 3 from Liverpool maybe and that’s about it. Haaland obviously is a world class goal scorer.
Theres‘s definitely less world class player than 10 years ago that’s true. I‘d say there is about 10 in world football currently if at all.
Marmoush needs a better first touch but I don’t that’s coming. So we have to play to his strengthens. The same with Haaland. Need to play faster and risk the lop ball. The first 20 minutes were good

idk if this was peps instruction but he tried to move like KDB to Receive the ball deeper and create. He has a pass in him surely but to establish in this role you need experience and practice a lot. I trust in him to grow in this hybrid shadow striker/Catalyst role.

Marmoush is head down, smash a shot from anywhere, no matter where anyone else is positioned.

Doku is foot-jiggle and a dribble, no matter where anyone else is positioned.

Savinho is head down, dribble either into a dead end or to an inconsistent cross, no matter where anyone else is positioned.

Haaland barely touches the ball enough to have an on-pitch connection with the others.

Foden, a bit like Marmoush, often receives the ball in areas where we can construct an attack but the only consideration is a long shot.

Everyone wants to make the difference, I’ll give them that, but they need to realise that they’d each make the difference more often if they look for each other on the pitch as the first port of call. They need to build on-pitch relationships because right now I don’t see any among them. Not one.

Our attackers might be close off the pitch (I don’t know) but on it they often look like they don’t enjoy playing with each other. They don’t mesh well.

You knew that David Silva was going to slide a ball to Sane inside the fullback, and you knew Sane’s first thought would be “is Sterling at the back post?” They looked for each other, they had relationships.

You knew prime KDB would look for Sergio/Erling as a priority.

You knew Nasri and Yaya would look for each other to play a one-two.

You knew Rodri would play a clipped pass over the defence to Mahrez’s out-to-in run at the back post.

I can’t think of a single connection we have among our attackers right now.
Will come in time. Some of these players will not make the premier league squad.

Savinho already has outstanding qualities. He needs to watch film of Mahrez and copy his best features, especially shooting.

If he was half as good he’d be some player. Kind of get what you mean but Salah has been freakishly brilliant

Yeah he just looks…unorthodox when he plays. IMO anyway.

He’s fantastic and effective but is a bit clunky when he has it, especially controlling it but then glides in full flow. And I think Marmoush is similar.

World-class player, one of the best players today. Always impresses me. Mind, we don't use him as well as we could. It will come, though. We are rebuilding the team, so it's only natural. Solid today.

Christ, he's miles off World-class right now. He's 26 and has had 2 good seasons in his career.

He has some ability for sure, but he needs to deliver consistently before we even think about calling him World Class.

Agree with the rest of what you said though.

Explosive. Really like him.

But his first touch leaves a bit to be desired.

He reminds me of Salah a bit, not an obviously exceptional footballer but effective where it matters.

Everything he does is a bit frantic, and he needs to play with his head up a bit more at times. That said, what he gives us is something different, and maybe it's better he retains his rough edges because of that.

Tbh none of our attackers have much cohesion with each other. Always feels to me like they each just do their own thing. There’s little to no chemistry in the way we attack.

The clip in that game that showed that was the counter where Omars pass didn't come off. But if you look Doku and Savinho are about to run into each other, they are getting in their own way just following the ball. Seems like there's zero chemistry between the two wingers.

I'm not exactly sure what role Omar was meant to play in our first half against Wydad.

Was he supposed to be a false 9 - or a true 9.

Either way, we had several occasions where a dangerous cross went in from the wing, and no one was in the box.

That said - I think that Omar played well against Wydad and had some half-chances that didn't come off.

I completely agree, none of them compliment each other at the moment and it's frustrating as fuck. Just ignoring good runs or players in open spaces and it's so bad in some cases that it looks deliberate.

That's why a player like Reijnders stood out yesterday, head up, looking for who's available to pass to.

I'm wondering how much chemistry people were expecting this attack to have built by now.

We signed Marmoush in January, Haaland was injured for most of the run in, Savinho lost his place in the run in, Foden was a shadow of his former self and Cherki just signed a couple of weeks ago. Not to mention, the team behind them was pretty dysfunctional.

Give them time to work together and build a relationship on the pitch. There's some incredible talent in that group and I don't get why anyone would expect everything to immediately click.

The missing first team starters and general system was mash mish as well?

Never been more convinced, he and Doku don't work.

On paper, Marmoush seems like a perfect false 9.

But his first touch and passing vision is not at that level.

What is at a high level though is his ability to make runs drifting from LW into left half spaces.

Just gotta rotate between them, I get that Pep wants to play both, but it doesn't work unless Doku goes RW.
Marmoush has strangely become a one position player. Inside left. You play him anywhere else and he simply sainters back to his preferred area.

If Doku starts on the left, it means Marmoush and O'Reilly shouldn't start ( Even though O'Reilly was better yesterday.) Doku just occupy the space they want to exploit.
