7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

Always baffles me why some decide a players career is over because they dont make an appearance or get much playtime during certain small periods.

Doku is unquestionably the starting left winger right now. When he came off, marmoush was an option but I can understand why Savinho comes on, the lad needs confidence, we're 5-2 up and they are leaving big gaps at the back for a runner like Savinho, at that point, there is also the prospect of taking Haaland off shortly after that round of subs and Marmoush is his best replacement.

It does not matter Sav will still find the blind alley

Its extra weird because his pressing is superb and Peps just leaving that on the bench for Savinho...
Honestly I am beginning think Savinho has a clause in his contract about mimimum appearances / playing time - i just can't understand how he is constantly given game time despite his performances or lack of !

In 12 days, on December 15th, after the Crystal Palace match (on December 14th), he leaves with his national team to play in the Africa Cup of Nations.

After coming on in the 89th minute against Leeds, not having a single minute to play tonight, when we needed an attacking player who was good at pressing and worked hard defensively, remains a mystery to me

The only thing I can think of is Omar's just back from an injury and he's not being rushed where as Pep is trying anything and everything with Savinho to show the board.. he's just SHIT.

Otherwise it makes absolutely no sense.. when Omar has goals and he's our best presser and that's something you need when you want to at the very least close out games.

But Savinho over Marmoush made absolutely no sense.

Yeah. He’s been here 11 months. People are way too hasty and one of the annoying things about football fandom. He played a huge role in last season top 4 run. He has dealt with injuries early season and maybe pep is trying to play Savinho into form and Doku has locked left wing down. I love his pressing and he does get goals so I hope he gets some minutes

Im not sure any manager anywhere in the world plays someone to show how shit they are:-)

They can give me a call though I can show em how bad I am if they like.

I think the truth of this situation lies somewhere in the middle.

I think the plan was for him to start on the left and he could do what Jeremy is doing now in moving in centrally. Unfortunately for Omar, he has been very okay when playing on the left, and Jeremy looks like he is really starting to put it all together from an end product stand point and Jeremy is far more of a threat on the wing then Omar is, and at this point, Jeremy over the season has been one of our best players and dropping him at this point would be a horrid decision.

Just Looking at Omar's record, He had 7 goals in about 1200 minutes of football last year. On the surface it's looks like a solid return. But if you take the Newcastle game out of the equation. It's closer to 4 goals in about 1100 minutes of football, not nearly as good. He was very okay in the CWC this summer, no goals or assists in 150 minutes including 2 starts, but still it takes players time to adapt to the system, and he needs minutes to get up to speed.

But at this point, the fact that they aren't even giving him those minutes, and they feel better with Savinho, Bobb, and Cherki coming on before him. It does tell you something about what they think of him. I think they view him as a guy who could play as a second striker, however we don't play in that sort of a system and he isn't technically good enough as a ten and does lose the ball too much as a ten to justify playing him their. He has never done well on the right, Just look at the stats in the image below, which is where our problem is in the attack. Now should he be getting the minutes over Savinho and Bobb? But Cherki has looked like our best option on the right, and given Cherki's age and ability he needs the minutes as much as Omar, and I think the better bet is to give those minutes to Rayan so he can develop.

I think this is a case of Pep and the club kind of knowing he isn't a system fit, but they are still intrigued with the Potential of Bobb and Savinho, which is why they are getting the minutes, as opposed to Omar who is 27 in February, and they believe he may be at his ceiling and this is what he is as a player.

Is this why he's not getting much game time? Falling out over him asking to be released for AFCON warm up matches and the club saying no?

Not normally one for conspiracies but Savinho being preferred to him does seem fishy.

Its so obvious why he isnt playing...he aint a wide player and he isnt technically good enough to play as the number 10 as you say.

And he aint starting over Haaland in any meaningful game....

He is a good player but one we dont need.....
