7 | Omar Marmoush - 2025/26

Feel bad for him. Two games in a row now where he's had a good first half, looked dangerous, been a right nuisance for the opposition, but Pep subs him first and we lose energy up front.

Should have taken that big chance he had in the first half, though. Needed to shift it onto his left and fire it across the keeper. Tried to get it on his right foot and lost the angle. That's 3-1 and game over.

Thought he did alright again. Seems to me the closest to actually clicking with Haaland, he at least tries to play off him and puts in a good shift. Felt like Semenyo should have gone off before him, once again.

Love his chaotic playstyle. He’s should’ve used his left though

I think we'll be cashing in on him this summer just doesn't do enough. Another player who we don't seem to know where his best position is, is it striker, left or right midfield, attacking midfield, who knows?
We have several players who can play across the front-line. We have a definite striker in Erling, but Foden, Cherki, Savinho, marmoush, and Semenyo can all play centrally or wide in support of him. Arguably, only Doku has a fixed position of all of that group. This gives us a big range of options and great flexibility.

In terms of playing style, I think he (Marmoush) is more comparable to Echeverri than the others. Claudio has some way to go, but if we were going to sell Marmoush, and Echeverri has a stellar season, I think we have enough with the others for a seamless shift. The same is true for Mukasa, but I see him more as an 8, and I don't see him becoming better than Foden or Cherki centrally, at least in the short term.

Really good first half, don’t think he deserved to be subbed.

Agreed with the first bit but he had gone quiet 2nd half.

It was actually a really easy game to call the subs and there were noticeable quiet moments. I thought O'Reilly could have been subbed too but his height is needed on set pieces.

Just needs to be a touch more clinical but I thought he did well first half, certainly well enough to hold the left until Doku is back.

start of second half semenyo was poor slow caught on ball but playing in different position to bournmouth days more inside than out were he can run only at city

Pep's willingness to use a player in a few positions shows he rates him.

He played Semenyo at 10 last night.

I've liked Marmoush's game lately. Causes chaos in the press, passes better than before, isn't going down as easy and seems to be adding a bit of fire to the team.

Much like Alvarez, a hard player to replace for versatility and all-round game. If he spent a season in the Haaland role (if Erling was injured) I'd expect him to get 30. Hard to find another guy who can deputise like that but still challenge for a starting winger position.

Our intensity goes up a level when he starts. He’s a whirlwind and not sure I’ve seen many players with a better shooting technique than his. Seems to connect purely every time he hits it.

Reminds me Szobozlai in that sense.

I don’t know why you’d feel bad for him, Pep keeps Semenyo and Haaland on when we’re struggling in second halves because they do a ton of defensive work. If Marmoush wants to stay on he knows exactly what to do.

Not sure id call leathering the ball great shooting technique. He’s had 5 shots on target in 9 games since AFCON. And across the season he’s scored 1 goal for every 13 shots he takes.

Shoots a lot and threatens little.

When we have a full set of forwards available, I would feel more comfortable if he was coming off the bench. Same with Semenyo

Not the biggest fan of what he does on the ball but he can put some credit it the bank if he continues to work as hard as he did yesterday, off it

His shot is a lot better than Savinho's! With actual venom too.. unstoppable if on target!

We should be asking him to shoot more not less!

Where as with Savinho.. a toddler could put more on the shot!

In 6 months time in a world where Foden is back in form, Doku is fit and Cherki is trusted more, I’m not sure why you’d ever pick Marmoush unless Haaland is injured.

He’s not an amazing finisher, he’s not got out and out pace, he doesn’t work particularly hard, hes not a physical player who can hold the ball up and bring others in, he’s not really capable of dropping into the 10 position and playing killer passes.

I said a few weeks ago he’s 6/10 at everything and maybe in better form he becomes 8/10 and a great allrounder but I’m not seeing it.

Some posters seem to think everything he does is amazing and I don’t think I’ve ever had such a big disconnect on here with what other people are seeing.

I think this is spot on, and, granted, I have been more critical of Marmoush than of most players, but my issue isn't that I don't think he's a good player. My issue is more about what we paid and what we are paying and what we could've done with it, because what we have gotten for what we paid has not been good enough.

I think we bought him on the theory that he could play out on the left and provide cover for Erling. In theory, this was a good idea, especially because we had no threat of the wings at all last year. But at this point, we are a year into his time here, and it's pretty clear he can't play off the left in our system. I think he's fine as a guy to cover for Erling. But the problem becomes the same one we had with Grealish (albeit for different reasons). He's on almost 300K a week. For that money, you need to be a lot better than just a backup; you need to be an integral part of the team. We can go back to the Gabriel Jesus/Julian Alvarez route to find a young up-and-coming South American Striker with some versatility and pay them 100K a week and have 200K a week left over to get an Elliot Anderson/Alex Scott/Adam Wharton.

I think he will be someone who is off in the summer, and I think he will have offers from big clubs in a place like Italy, with AC Milan, and maybe Germany at Dortmund, but that's about his level. He's a good player but not great.
