Quite pleasantly surprised by the level of his backing tbh. Calling him an extraordinary player who'll get back to his best. Doesn't really sound like anyone is wavering on his new contract at the club either, although I could be reading too much into his support!
I wouldn't call it wavering but making it clear that it is Raheems responsibility and his alone to get back to his best form. He has used this script a number of times with Raheem. The confidence has to come from him. Its both encouragement but ultimately drawing a line from Pep.

The message:
1. Phil and Marez are playing better than you
2. We trust you and have confidence in you that you will return to your former excellence
3. Ultimately you must exhibit the confidence to do that. We cannot provide that for you

I think he will do it. He is a tough little bugger. Lets hope he starts showing it today.

For me it goes without saying that he needs to improve on recent performances. That’s the challenge. But I’ve seen Pep fillet players who aren’t playing or talk about them like they’re dead (Leroy).

Sterling will not be in the reckoning to start against PSG so he s nailed on for the Spursy game , would be great if he scored and his confidence could be even slightly restored , an inform Sterling in full flight is certianly an asset to our team.

Sterling’s predicament is highly peculiar. It’s not so much a dip in form as an almost complete loss of confidence and technique. In some ways, it’s akin to a Test batsman losing it or a golfer having the yips. Really hope that he can recapture it today, but it’s a terribly fine line; he desperately needs something to break for him and soon.

I think that with Pep publicly revealing his hand, Sterling now knows there will be no guaranteed starting berths for him, throwing the gauntlet down to prove his value.

That’s rather assuming he responds to such motivation; I’m not entirely sure that he does.
With only an eye for the remaining fixtures, we really need him to recapture his form this afternoon. If he could prove instrumental in defeating Spurs, then he’d be primed for a run at a PSG defense that has shown cracks. On his day he’s almost unplayable, so let’s just hope that today is indeed that day.

No matter what he does or doesn’t do today, cannot see him starting against PSG.

Exactly. The only way he plays vs PSG is if Foden or Mahrez is out injured, or if Kev isn’t fit and Pep still fancies a false 9. I always think Sterling plays better in the CL, but he’s been so mind bendingly awful in the PL for the last couple of months, I’d be amazed if he starts in Paris
