This quote is about Foden and his development, but to me it speaks to why Sterling isn’t getting a look in…

Fernandinho on Foden:

"You have to understand your team-mates. The movements they make, when you have to pass the ball, when you have to drive the ball. He learned so much in the past years and that's one of the reasons he became one of the most important players in this squad."

I know what your saying but I think he isn't getting a look in because of his own form, not someone else's.

Doesn't say much about his character if that was the case and he crumbles at the first hurdle, which BTW i dont think he has.
More probable we arent playing to his strengths and his limitations/weaknesses are now very apparent.

- Grows up an immigrant without a dad (because he was murdered).

- Cleans toilets before school because its the only way his mum can keep down the multiple jobs she's working.

- Takes 2 hour busses to and from training after school.

- Moves away from home at 15 to provide for his family

- Gets subjected to an organised national hate campaign by the biggest newspaper in the country. Gets racially assaulted, abused st every ground in the country.

"Crumbles at the first hurdle"

Get fucked. Raheem Sterling has overcome far more than a drop in form and being out of the starting line up for 3 months.

He's the clubs highest goalscorer over the past 4 seasons. He's scored or assisted more goals than anyone not named Kevin De Bruyne even in his worst seasons.

He's done as much for this clubs success under Pep as any one of his teammates and despite the fact you and a few others wish he was sold off every window for whatever new shiny toy there is, he'll be here for the foreseeable, racking up goals and trophies.

I've seen Raheem in a pre final interview on DAZN.de and wow - he looked fully pissed off. Crossed arms, thin-lipped, no smile, even unfriendly.
Not happy that man. (Sorry, no link available.)

Not like being part of a team ready for the biggest match in club history.
Especially after all the other positive videos from other players.

I wouldnt expect him to be happy if he has got wind of being on the bench.

A £300k p/w week player shouldn't be having a confidence crisis because he's been cast out of the team by team mates offering more than him.

Needs to be grabbing his opportunities by the scruff and forcing his way back in, which he's failed to do this season. It's on Sterling failing living up to the standards he has set the past couple of seasons, not because Foden has emerged as a world class talent.

I just don't think we should still be having this confidence discussion with Sterling after 6 years at the club and him being one of our top earners/senior players (and in line for an extension). We can't afford to continue to have these cycles with Sterling where he forgets the ability to shoot a ball into the net because he's short on confidence.
Would it be better if he were an 80 k a week player ?
Or maybe £120 K
Seriously, what does his wage have to do with it ?
Does it raise fan’s expectations? Or is it just a stick to beat him with .

Of course it matters. Why do you think Barcelona has so many debts? Because the insane wages they are paying to players like Griezman, Coutinho, Pique, Sergi Roberto, Umtiti...Also, due to FFP there is a top to the wages a team can pay, that means a player needs to produce according to his wages, and if not, he's making his team weaker (in the sense they could get a better player with that salary).

It's absurd, what's next: to have the same expectations from a 18 y.o academy player and a 100m player?

OK , thanks . Although , you know, I kind of understand that .
Good to know our wages aren’t insane , just run of the mill average .
