Because he's a good player,but for the reasons stated previously,that doesn't mean we can't improve on him....and i genuinely believe there are players out there who will make this team better.
I think he has certain qualities that go unnoticed. There has to be a reason that top players like Sané, Bernardo, Mahrez, and now Torres and Foden have never been able to displace him. On top of the fact that Southgate has persisted with him from day 1 even with media pressure to play Rashford, Sancho, and several others ahead of him.

If there are players that can improve on him there'd be very very few of them. There are probably a good handful of players better on the ball than him but his off the ball game is up there with the very best. He reminds me of Thomas Muller in ways.

I think he's destined to divide.As i keep saying....he just doesn't have the killer instinct for me,i would like a player with a bit more about him.

I see where you're coming from, but as I see it, it's an as well as rather than an instead of situation.

In 18/19 we had 3/4 wingers who all did something different. When they're all fit again, if we include Torres we'll have potentially 3 centre forwards who can all do something different. We have a bunch of midfielders that can do something different. And for the first time we have a pair of right backs who can offer something different.

That variety is king. There will be some games where having a guy like Sterling is absolutely vital, whether it be for his pace, positional intelligence/fluidity, movement, or goalscoring. But occasionally you'll want a right footer who can come in from the left, take two players on and score from the edge of the area (Torres hopefully). Sometimes you'll want someone who can play in a good cross. Sometimes you'll just want someone who can come inside and play as a an extra midfielder etc.

We could sign someone with real killer instinct, but then maybe they'd not have a bunch of other traits Sterling has. There's no way we can sign anyone who's a complete upgrade on him. That's why we need that variety.

Some good input,i think the main gripe for many is that we have two players in him and Mahrez that are similar in their on field presence,both are very powderpuff and lightweight.Replace one with a player with a bigger pair,and the weaknesses will be much better hidden.
A physical target man will also help.

That's fair.

Uh oh

Official: #ManCity have four representatives in the nominations for the 2020
@EASPORTSFIFA
Team of the Year - Kevin De Bruyne, Ederson, Aymeric Laporte, and Raheem Sterling

Sterling has always had a weakness in 1-on-1s. This isnt new, but the rest of his game: speed, movement, strength, stamina, chemistry with team, are all very high.

Somebody criticized his strength in the comments, really? Hes insanely strong for his size and manages to bully players way larger than him.

His passing? Nothing direct to create, but he passes and moves, and links up well in general to start counters. His decision making in passing is good.

Take out the 1on1 weakness, and people couldn't find a valid reason to complain about him. Kid gets goals, he is thankfully going nowhere.
