Best player on the pitch for 45. We were very disjointed second half so not as involved and tailed off a bit but so was everyone else.
Another plus night tonight overall.

Really torn. I’m delighted he’s returning to form, but incredibly wary that he’ll retain the ability to go full car-crash again. That’s a dangerous proposition if he’s on a new, long term contract.

I hope he smashes it until May, then moves on. I love the lad but I’ve lost trust in him. I wouldn’t be handing him a new 5 year £350k p/w deal.

Decent performance from him especially on the left. He had their right back on toast

I have called Sterling out for some of his performances over the last 12 months……but credit to him, that was his best performance in a long while.

Just because you're in zonal marking, doesn't mean you can't try and rub a guy off his route.. you know, throw the timing off their set piece?

Go watch it again. He grabs his arm and lets him run by. He simply doesn't think the play is set up for Watkins.. guess what? It was.

I mean, honestly.. Is THAT the standard of defending for one of our highest earners and veteran leaders..?

He's not his man. It's that simple.

He defended his zone. You're trying to find something to attack him for and failing miserably.

I find myself usually agreeing with your takes on here, Domalino, but I respectfully disagree here..

I think even Raz would say he should be doing more there to knock him off his run in retrospect. As I said before, I thought on the whole he played well.

Thought he had a good game. Absolutely tortured Matty Cash in the first half. Seems to be growing in confidence each game, so hopefully it continues.

This is just you not understanding zonal marking.

His job as the furthest out City player is to defend that zone around the D, stop the threat from people like McGinn if/when the ball goes out to them.

Watkins is there to begin with, yes, but Sterling isn't supposed to follow him when he leaves his zone.

Nah, I still thought he should screen the runner.

But on second viewing Watkins starts his run from right next to him rather than running across him so there's not much Sterling could have done other than grabbing onto him.
