Could see he was confident in beating the full back, played well looked really good on the right. A real dilemma for Pep ahead of Sunday now.

As a wide RW he always delivers - without any doubt top-class and real end-product.. He was already at that level in 2017 / 2018..

As a LW he is always unstable and his awful first-touch and other skills are more visible / noticeable, and that's why Pep prefers to use Foden or Grealish, because they have enough skills and what's more important first touch / ball-control abilities to play there..

But Mahrez plays his best football during the past 2 years, so it's difficult to tell which one is better: Mahrez as an inverted winger or Sterling as wide RW.

I would prefer Raheem anyway, even though Mahrez is our best attacker / player this season..

Sterling should start against Liverpool. It still amazes me how many of our "support" think he's shit. That end product stat, averaging nearly 30 goals+assists each season, tells the real story.

He should have started on the right and Foden on the left. Pep tried to force Mahrez in (understandable) but Raz is in good form on the right, particularly linking up with KDB and we would have had more success going round the outside of the narrow Atletico defence with 2 wide players on their correct foot.

Mahrez on the right and Sterling on the left was just setting them up to cut into traffic all night.

Didn't get the decision to start him. Was never going to be any space for him to run into tonight, they sat deep we played with a slow often ponderous approach play, didn't make sense to have him on the left, especially when he was never going to stretch the pitch due to his insistence on cutting onto his right.

Would make far more sense to start him in Madrid though now that we've got the lead and they have to come out, should be more room for him and the mere threat of him in behind should limit their fullbacks attacking threat.

Said it before, the most threatening non threatening player ever.

Find it ironic he scored the 1v1 and it ended up being offside. I’m sure many people covered their eyes when he was through

He handicaps us whenever he plays, it’s that simple for me, he’s never played well in any meaningful game we’ve had with him starting. My heart sinks when I see him in the starting lineup.
Sorry if it annoys others but that’s just my personal opinion of Sterling.
We should’ve won that today.

Football is a game of opinions, but this is so unbelievably wrong that I don’t know how anyone who watched the match could end up thinking this.

People being annoyed at the finishing I understand - although it’s exaggerated - but to pretend he was weak when he spent all game holding the ball up successfully against Van Dijk and Matip is just utter fantasy, and he managed to bring the ball down, control it and nudge it on to KdB or Jesus so many times to set us off on attack that you’d have to be blind to moan about his control.

So many of our attacks today came from a ball up to Sterling and him fighting like a dog to keep it under extreme pressure and then set someone free running at their back line.

Genuinely that comments like this get posted after a match like that are proof that a good amount of posters on here look but don’t see, and just repeat the same old criticisms unless he scores.
