Still think that this is what will be required in order for us to get 4th.

Bob has now got us 27 points from 14 games, W8 D3 L3, and I believe we need 14 points from our remaining 7.

W4 D2 L1 and 4th will be ours, keep ticking the results off, and if we can win against both Burnley and Birmingham then we can afford a "wobble" without being too troubled.

That's how I see it anyway.

as long as the wins include villa and spuds that is

I see Burnley being something of a nightmare. Their pitch on Sunday looked very poor, little grass and very bumpy. The forecast all week is for wet weather, so that pitch is going to be a bog on Saturday evening, far worse than Hull, and you can bet your bottom dollar that Burnley will be up for it, as they need to win just as much as we do.

BTW, what is a bottom dollar???

One of those wins would have to come against Tottenham though. I know its at home but their form is looking worryingly untouchable at the moment.

Don't necessarily need to beat Spurs, we SHOULD be ahead of them when we play in which case a point will keep destiny in our own hands and a win will get us 4th.

Spuds run of games before we play them are:

Sunderland away
Arsenal home
Chelsea home
Scum away
Bolton home

Personally I think they will do well to get 6/7 points from those 5 games in which case we will be in pole position.

On paper the 4 wins needed could be these fixtures IMO.
Burnley-Birmingham-villa-West Ham.
Then 2 draws from any of these Man U-Arsenal-Spurs.
Very difficult but attainable.

Bet your last coin.

Origin

Unsurprisingly, this in an American phrase. First cited in the La Crosse Independent Republican, September 1856:

"I'm goin' to vote for you [James Polk] - you can bet your bottom dollar on that!"

Wow, you are amazing. Now can you do anything with Burnley's pitch for Saturday?

I think we may need 71. I get us there with the following

W
Burnley, Birmingham, Villa, West Ham and something from United/Arsenal/Spurs

L
2 of United/Arsenal/Spurs

Ideally we beat Spurs in there as that's a 6 pointer.

71 points means Liverpool would have to win all 6 of their remaining games, including Chelsea. A single draw would see them only being able to get 70 points. With the goal difference then, getting to 71 is absolutely crucial.

71 points means that Spurs would need 13 points from their remaining 7 games. If we draw with them then that's 12 points from 6, in a run in that includes Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Sunderland away. If they were to pick up those points then they probably deserve to finish 4th.

Just to put a bit of a downer on things, whoever gets, I think they have to play a Qualifying game to get into the Group Stage. If they were to lose that game, is that Europe over, or would they get into the Europa League?

They get a bye into the Europa League

We will be seeded in that event anyway, so we would probably play the Andorran champions, or even one of the Old Firm. Basically we should qualify, even Everton managed to get into the Group stages.

Actually, Everton were knocked out by Villareal in their qualifier. As far as I understand it, seeds are given on the teams UEFA coefficient and NOT just by being English.

and at the moment we are 64th in the uefa rankings, although some of the teams above us will automatically be in the group stages of the cl and some might not be in it at all

... and I think the phrase was first coined (ouch sorry) from playing poker.
Betting your bottom dollar would be the equivelent of "Going all in" (moving all chips into the bet, including your bottom or last dollar).

How recent is this? The only one i've seen has us in 50th

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.eurotopfoot.com/gb/uefacoefteam2009.php3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.eurotopfoot.com/gb/uefacoefteam2009.php3</a>

The following get a bye into the final qualifier with 4th plce.

* Spain Fourth placed team of 2009–10 La Liga (Mallorca/Sevilla/Bilbao faves)
* Italy Fourth placed team of 2009–10 Serie A (Napoli/Juve/Sampdoria)
* Germany Third placed team of 2009–10 Fußball-Bundesliga (Dortmund/Leverkusen)
* France Third placed team of 2009–10 Ligue 1 (Auxerre/Lille/Lyon)

In short it's probably 50/50 whether we get a seed. I'd be inclined to say we don't.

i used this web-site
it has at 63rd for this season, potentially 54th for next season as things stand

its not an exact science as you don't know who will qualify for the 4th qualifying rounds but as a guide if you use this seasons games there were more than required teams to make us unseeded. best to think we will be unseeded and anything else as a bonus
