70 years driving, never had a licence or insurance, or accident.

My dad just applied for a driving licence after being demobbed from the army after
the war, he got one, no problem, never had to take a test, and it included HGV's.

I think that whole generation were the same. My grandad had a licence based on half an hour of being shown how to drive in the army.

Yes, I think service personnel were given preferential treatment, he'd been wounded
maybe that helped, but it was no problem and he drove his brother's American Buick around as a taxi
straight away. Got to admit he was a great driver, of anything and everything.
