I’m not buying the “same Gundogan” talk. He looks, feels, acts and plays like a different player. Sure he may have had a lot of these traits @ Dortmund in his locker - running with the ball, getting at players, not pulling out of challenges, playing with supreme knowledge of his abilities but he has never really showed them for various reasons. Confidence, fitness, positionally, personnel, whatever.
I genuinely think he’s been a disappointment. It’s been years of mostly 5-7 out of 10s.

This Gundogan feels remarkably different and I’m delighted to be able to say that, for him especially as he’s had to take a lot of shit, and the team. And hold my hands up that I never thought I’d see this.

He has never been mostly 5-7 on bluemoon yes in reality never, people need to look with their own eyes, not follow the crowd, he was a scapegoat, people only highlighted things that went wrong and blamed him for all sorts of nonsense, he's had bad games who hasn't, but to say gundogan is an average midfielder or even a below average midfielder (5-7) is way short

5 is average, not below average.

When I say 5-7 I mean decent enough player on the whole but not many compelling performances that you could point to in his City career. And there were so many where he was a passenger, often ran past, not really doing anything. So many turgid performances. Not grabbing games by the scruff of the neck. Not really contributing on the goal front. Lacking the dynamism and confidence he does now. Only really flexing when there was no press and aggression from the opposition in comfortable games. It’s been a marked improvement, of which I don’t think anyone can deny - and that in itself evidence of how below this level he has been playing at for 4+ years.

I won’t get into the “maybe on blue moon stuff”. You need to be better than that.

He just looks so acutely tuned into the matches now. Just like Cancelo and Stones. They play like there’s never anything but football on their minds and it’s amazing to see. I have never seen Gundogan look so alert for City as he does now. He has been a revelation and a genuine leader on the pitch this season.

Gundogan has been world class this season. This is the best he’s played for us. Another transformation, he added exactly what I said was missing from him, influencing the game more.

He is now more aggressive with the ball and more adventurous in possession. He receives the ball turns 2 defenders and passes it forward where previously he would just pass it back.

Scoring important goals, top class strikes. Last season 3 seasons he scored 2, 6 and 4 goals in the league. Already has 7 goals this season, a considerable step up.

He's also a hell of a lot fitter plus he's not bottling challenges anymore. Playing further forward has helped no question but you can't seriously argue he doesn't look fitter and more committed to the physical side of the game. Anyway bedtime for me ;)
Exactly, you can see that extra yard of pace. He looks leaner, fitter and has never scored this many goals in his career. He is not the player of old

With Cancelo and Stones, this season, it feels like we've seen Pep getting the best out of them. Gundogan feels a bit different. It's more like he's been let off a leash.

Oh, and if he's not given the Premier League PoTM award then it'll be daylight fucking robbery.
Don’t hold your breath. Fernandes will be nailed on, again.
