82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

Not a chance. What other manager/side wants his “attributes”? He is 5 foot tall. Weighs 6 stone piss wet through. Can’t defend. Runs like he’s towing a caravan. Falls over if the wind gets above 8mph and he can’t pass forward. Theres one manager in world football that would find a use for those attributes and he already plays for him. It’s Pep or bust for Rico.
That's harsh. Perhaps it will transpire to be that he's not good enough and we sell him, but there will be plenty of interested clubs should that be case.

I know you were talking tongue in cheek but he's about the same size as David Silva but heavier and about the same height as Bernardo but heavier again.

He just goes down too easily.

He’s a kid still and has been played in so many different positions. I think he’s mustard though, although he’s not showing it currently.

I liked him playing as a right back and stepping into midfield. I think that’s the best and most effective we’ve seen him.

He has developed a tendency to go over too easily and it’s not a good look. Pep clearly trusts him though, so he will be a starter for a long, long time.

Most sides play with a traditional RB. That means defend well and then try and support your winger in attack. Rico can’t defend and I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I have seen him overlap his winger. The things he is decent at, are wanted by a select few clubs.

The only way he gets sold for decent money, is if a side makes the mistake of buying him because of the assumption that he plays for City, so must be dead good. Like sides used to do with the rags, when they were at the top.

not sure what Pep is expecting from him in this role, or Lewis himself is fully sure what to do. maybe in an otherwise fully working team with a fit Rodri, and a fit KDB, he could kind find his role much better as he would have some serious adaptation points, but right now in this mess we are he looks lost.

The problem is, when you’re a player of his height/physical attributes, you have to be something really special to make it at the very top of the game. Both Silvas were world class footballers. A lack of size/weight won’t hold back the very best. It will hold back the rest.

Then we’ll suffer. He is ok when we have a full team and we play going forwards. but he’s not anywhere near ready to be playing so much. He wouldn’t get in any other top 10 side. Hes in a dismal run of form. Cant recover and get knocked off it so easily. He needs using better than this as its doing us and him no favours.

You said it, hes a kid, he needs managing better than this. I understand pep loves his heart and he never hides but his other attributes are not ready for the predicament we are in.

We will suffer if we continue as is. I agree that using him as a midfield player and expecting him to do everything an experienced player would do is not using him correctly. As you say, he’s ok when we have a full team but based on our squad he still gets in that 11 for me.

Playing him at right back and allowing him to step into midfield restricts the area of the pitch he has to concentrate on and be effective in. That will help him in his early years.
