A number of my mates were raving about him when he started getting in the team. Said I wasn't convinced and thought he was a championship player at best. I got a fair bit of flak for that at the time, but they seem to have now changed their tune. He'd struggle to get a game in one of the sides down the bottom of the league. An all conquering and confident City team could carry the odd player like him, unfortunately this team is a shadow of its former self and he's getting brutally exposed.

Both fullbacks are liabilities for one reason or another. Gvardiol is his own worst enemy twisting and turning when he's by his own corner flag and invariably giving it away when he could have just booted it forward or played a simple pass quickly. The amount he bombs forward and loses the ball or leaves a gaping hole on the counter is ridiculous. He must be getting told by Pep to do it otherwise he'd be getting dropped surely?!! Rico gets bullied by teams and doesn't seem to be aware of where he is on the pitch. I'm still mad about the Real Madrid first leg where he pussied out of a header that would have been unchallenged to a tame high foot which got intercepted and led to their goal.

The defence as a whole is abysmal and their second goal summed up how shite it is. A primary school team would be embarrassed at conceding that.

This is 100% correct - the lad just isnt good enough.

He could end up staying as a bit part player to be used as a sub, but we'll see.

Very poor recruitment

Now I'm far from being as harsh on this lad as many of you. But one thing that is glaringly obvious is that he simply is no kind of defender. He doesn't have the pace, he doesn't have the physical presence, he doesn't have the positional sense, he will lose a 50-50 header maybe four times out of five. There may be another place for him somewhere on the pitch (although, increasingly, I recognise that he doesn't really have the skills as a midfielder to make the killer pass, and an even halfway decent Foden gets into the midfield ahead of him every time, with no discussion — so does Jack incidentally, I can only presume there's been words between him and Pep at some point, but that's another issue).
It is downright weird that over and over again Pep keeps picking Rico, and over and over again he keeps getting exposed in that right back position. The world and his little dog can see it. What is Pep seeing? Or is it that we simply have no-one else for that spot, now that Walker's gone?
Poor planning, there. Poor planning indeed.

Very, very reluctantly, I say this, because Pep has given us unbelievable success, and he's universally recognised as the most generally savvy coach on the planet, and if there's one person I believe in to fix our problems in the close season, it's him: there are parts of the pitch where his stubbornness is costing us. Possibly big time.

It was really hard day for him with the U21

Girona have sold Savio to City for 40mill ?

Lets sell Rico to them for the same amount

That England defensive performance was abysmal. Featuring Rico, Harwood Bellis and Egan Riley...

All good players. None good enough for where we are now as a top team.

no awareness for their second goal, turned inside & out for the third.

Pep will still pick him next week :-(
That one was telling for me (the second). He can see across the line at the whole play. If the ball goes behind Harwood-Bellis then that attacker has a free run. He didn’t anticipate that at all and just fucking jogs. Clearly doesnt have this intelligence pep keeps talking about as he was clueless to the danger or just bone idle and im not sure which one is worse

It's 100% clear after 2 years of Rico starting or coming in as a substitute in our squad that he's is a liability.

Rico is mostly tidy on the ball - when not pressed: he quickly moves the ball. Sideways, backwards or forwards.

But that's it.

I'd explain Rico's numerous, obvious defects as a defender and as an attacker both when and when we do not have the ball, but this would be redundant - as numerous posts above have already explained these shortcomings.

In case you're still confused... here's the short take...

Rico - albeit clearly gifted - is nowhere near talented enough to hold down a starting position in a club hoping to finish first in the P/L.

I dont think he can do RB like Nunes or how I want to see, up and down the pitch.

But maybe he could be molded into what Bernie did, a hard fighting RCM, winning possession to get our side ticking.

Still just as a backup, but it could work.
