82 | Rico Lewis - 2024/25

It seems some fans just like to call out Rico Lewis regardless of how he performs.
For some, they are upset because Lewis is getting game time while Jamie Mcateer is not. So, they criticize Lewis every time just out of frustration.
Other fans chose to ignore the biggest culprit in our defense who is Gvardiol, Stones and Walker.
Gvardiol has been gifting goals to the opposition. But fans are blinded by bias and chose to mention Lewis instead.
They question what Lewis brings to the team. It appears like they know more than the manager.
Meanwhile, these same fans are often silent when their favourite player has a terrible game. Or sometimes, they make excuses on behalf of the said player.

Anyone who watches the team objectively will see what Lewis brings. If the club sells him and he goes and shines in another club, these same fans will criticize the club again.

If you cannot support the team when they are going through a bad patch, then don't support them when they bounce back.
You obviously have a big love-in for Rico Lewis. Whilst you find it fine to criticise most of the other members of the team.

Please tell us mortals what we are not seeing about Rico that you can see.

If any fan wants to be objective in their criticism of any player during this period, then pick on those players that are actually costing us games. Players that makes the same mistake game after game.
Picking on Rico is absurd.
He is a young player coming through the system and needs our support.
But some fans just wants to destroy him for whatever reason. Yet, these same fans don't apply the same energy when their favourite player cocks up. They instead, makes excuses for the said player.

I don't like to criticise any of our boys. I only mentioned some names to support the point that I was trying to make.

He’s too small that’s the problem. There’s been many footballers who are small and played well and could deal with the physicality, but they put weight on to do that

Right now Rico’s biggest downfall is his physicality he can’t play midfield as any tackle he falls to the floor or when ever someone bigger than him is physical he can’t just bounce off them he end up sliding or falling, these past games he’s been bullied physically by the opposition players. How many times have we seen him slide on the pitch after being shoulder barged.

He has brilliant technical ability that Pep even hails him for , but he’s not there physically when up against older and bigger players in midfield.

Im still of the mind that IF he is to have a career here it would be:

1) As a backup player squad player, I can never see him being one of the best in the squad in a position

2) As a midfielder, his best asset is quickly turning in the pockets and that he has some "dog" in him.

He will let the team down too much inverting as a RB due to all the physical attributes he lacks.

Which happens to be why Gvardiol is so good as a LB, he is good forward AND has good defensive attributes... for a LB (not a CB as Ake can do).
