Much better. Helped us keep the ball and showed some nice aggression in wanting to win the ball back high and quickly. That's the level now. No dropping below it.

Had a decent game.

Don’t knot the logic behind him standing next to Nico for short pass.
That's to bait a press.

As you inferred, it looks pointless, lulls the opposition to press because they see 1 man pressing 2 so narrow as an advantage.

But the goal is to bring in other pressers and quickly pass your way around the press at the right time.

He’s a pretty decent right back. He’s just never going toe to toe with the best wingers in the World. But should be kept around as a decent squad man.

He's a right back. He's been asked to start there and go into midfield against lads twice his size at 18/19/20.

Play him as a conventional right back rather than sending him into midfield and we have a player on our hands. Brilliant today

Good to see the usual cunts are absent from this thread , he was excellent today

He’s a kid making his way in the toughest league in the world , playing for a team that’s been really struggling for consistency

He’s a blue, he puts loads of effort in and he’s got real quality

50 year old men bemoaning his physicality can get in the bin

Well said. All the boo boys are no where to be seen today

He’s still a baby, and his development stalled due to being asked to play in so many positions, and Pep interpretations of them. I’d loan him out next season to allow him to develop in the rightback role on a weekly basis

Rico and Gundo stayed very close to Gonzalez today imo helped our midfield a lot, also I feel like playing him along side Khusanov actually works very well.

The team set up without a proper 6 exposes Lewis’ weaknesses against fast transitions.

With a 6, these transitions don’t happen and he looks like the solid right back he is.

Same with Gundogan. Nico G’s presence allowed Ilkay to blossom in his proper position again.

I’ve defended the lad a lot explaining how he was MOTM in a lot of games but when we are struggling in areas it leaves him exposed.
