I honestly can’t ever see him being good enough to regularly start in one of our 3 midfield berths. For a team aspiring to be PL, CL top dogs I just don’t think he will ever be that player.He seems a nice kid but it’s a no for me I’m afraid.
“He’s only 20” - I wonder what age does a footballer have to reach before they stop getting “He’s only” in front of the number?
But I do think he could have an excellent time elsewhere, with a team who had lower expectations, and I do agree he seems like a good lad who deserves a decent career in the game.

Right, here goes my take.
I take no pleasure in writing this at all however I do feel that Pep’s continued blind faith in this boys ability is seriously making me question for almost the very first time , the boss.
On the eve of a new season and our RB options are truly awful. We have obviously been spoiled by Kyle and he will go down in history as our most outstanding fullback in living memory so a drop off was always likely, but this is a chasm.
Rico Lewis has neither the physical ability or the necessary skill set to cover that position in a potentially title challenging team . It is unfair on him that the manager showcases his frailties to be clearly exposed to all in plain sight.The time has well and truly gone for him to prove us all wrong, and he knows it.His body language on the pitch gives the game away to me and he is in denial about the fact that he is utterly out of his depth. Nothing wrong with his belief in himself and his own abilities as without that he would completely crumble but his corner needs to chuck the towel in for me.
We all know it , his ship has never really sailed as the mast is just not big enough to carry the sail I’m afraid.
Get your head out of the sand Mr Guardiola & co, this is holding us back.

We are not the same team now.
He is not a fresher anymore also.
He is a bloody woeful fullback, a half decent inverted one, and similar to Philip Lahm as a midfield link man but his eye for a pass is sometimes missing.

Everyones entitled to their own take. However, rather than make you question Pep, have you thought that maybe you need to question your own take on it instead?
I see people on here slagging Rico off after he's had a good game. I see them slagging him off when he wins a foul. I see them slagging him off when others give him a crap pass, or when others don't make themselves available for a pass. Some just won't give him any credit, whatever happens on the pitch.
New season. Let's just try looking at players afresh. I'm not totally sure of his level, but I end up sticking up for him because I think some have made him the fall guy unfairly. One thing he always does though is give his all, so he deserves some respect from people.

Good pass for the goal but for me neither him or Nunes should be nailed on right back and we need to sign someone.

You know when you're younger and you've got a team full of would be strikers that can't all play there so everybody has to do their stint in net or in defence etc to make a decent game of it, Rico reminds me of the one lad on the side who just disregards where he's meant to be playing and basically plays upfront anyway.
He's so often in what i'd consider a strikers position. Now that can be a very potent weapon but he has to learn when to make those runs and that he doesnt need to do it at every available opportunity. Sometimes, just hanging back in your actual position can be the better option.
Cracking pass for Haalands goal. He might not be a world beater but he undoubtedly has a place in this squad
