82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

I'm a high ranking member of the rico lewis haters society, absolutely class last night. Very similar to the forest game in the FA Cup.

I still think he should probably be sold due to the overload in that area of the pitch and his physical limitations, but he has his qualities and is very sharp around the box. Not his first assist to haaland that.
Why would you be proud of being a hater of one of your own players? Just plain weird

Pep trusted a 20 year old Rico in centre midfield in a Champions League game. He didn't trust a 20 year old Foden in similar games. Rico has never let Pep down. He is not the finished player and he is small but so was David Silva. Rico will get better and Pep knows that.

Hes not, but im still a bit confused as to what reijnders brings to the team to the team in these very early days
He made a play tracking back the other day that most likely prevented us conceding. Last season that exact same play would have resulted in a goal against. He's in his prime years and his ability to get around the pitch shows that. Along with Phil and Nico G. you're talking day and night from last season. Everyone said our defense fell apart last season partly due to being overrun in the midfield. That's just not happening this season.

The same way Haaland's movement is elite in terms of getting into good scoring positions Reijnders' is as well from the perspective of an 8. He's always getting looks. When some of these start falling he'll be at another level.

Another classy performance. Able to link up well with Cherki in the small spaces.

Whoever he is up against, you always see the winger being faster, stronger than him. He just can't be relied upon defensively. Positive going forward, though .

If Rico Lewis is the level we are at then we really have fallen massively . Nothing against the lad but nowhere near good enough .

Only played 436 minutes so far this season, which is currently fewer than James Trafford. Going to need minutes in the run of games after the international break, Leverkusen through Sunderland.

He'll go in the summer, new contract or no. He almost left last summer, and as it stands he's probably going to get less minutes this season then in any previous year (maybe aside from his first one)

He's got no chance breaking into the england squad on our bench, and he's got a career to think about.

I think his poor showings at RB last season have basically ended him as a utility player. Unless its carabao, Pep will only play him in midfield at this point, which is going to drop his minutes.

Because we simply cannot keep playing the same players. Guardiola knows that November through January is incredibly demanding in England, and if we flog players into the ground then, they have less in the tank come spring. We're already going to be two men down when Ait-Nouri and Marmoush leave for AFCON, Kovacic might not be available until spring, and Rodri is an unknown quantity at this stage. The run of games I highlighted are arguably against weaker opponents, so we need to use Lewis, and Ake, to keep them involved and to give us the best shot across multiple fronts.

Perhaps. It does look as if he'll be given fewer minutes this season, but we still need to use him and not only in Carabao Cup fixtures. Players are too quickly judged on here, and I'd reserve judgment until I see him playing in a team that is confident and firing on all cylinders; poor showings were common last season across the park. I'm unconvinced that he'll ever be a top fullback with us, but I can see him being quite an effective midfielder, even if it is largely from the bench.
