87 | James McAtee - 2024/25

Very good cameo.
Pep’s comments suggest his performance has given him (Pep) confidence to trust him more.
An extra player to rotate with our aging and tired squad.
Energy, creativity and athleticism that we’ve badly needed.
A positive boost for us fans.
A positive boost for James.
A positive boost for the team.
A positive boost for the club.
A positive boost for Pep on his 500th game.
What’s not to like.
More of this please Pep, whether starting James or bringing him on and giving him 20-25 minutes, let’s give the lad more chances to show what he can do to help the team.

I'd be interested to know why Pep brought him on today.
He had several opportunities before this and had Doku on the bench.
Hope McAtee can now get more game time
Probably because of how poor Phil was and he knew McAtee would keep the ball much better than Doku. More surprising Grealish didn’t come on under the circumstances. It obviously paid off for the goal in keeping Savinho on the left too.

Thing with Pep is he is open to any player talking to him with problems! Thing is players rarely do! Remember Foden asking pep do you like me as a player or something to that extent when he wasn't getting much game time few years back! Pep had a chat was all sorted! Seems MCateer also had the chat..

He has been pretty anonymous in previous outings but that was huge today.

We need to learn from Palmer and be patient with him and Rico to a lesser extent.
Most of the minutes he's had in the past we've been in game management mode. He's a creative player and we weren't looking to create anything.
The way Leicester were running through our team in the 2nd half I thought an equaliser was inevitable. Phil was having an absolute nightmare so Pep brought McAtee on in very different circumstances than previously.
His skill and through ball created the 2nd goal and gave him a moment in the first team his career has needed.

I would say in next PL match he should still be used as substitute for 30 mins or so . Let him be impact sub and add much neeeded energy in last 30 mins when we seemingly are low on energy

I don't know if we're thinking about separate things but I remember back in the days when Phil wasn't a regular starter Pep said in a press conference that he wants Phil banging on his office door and demanding more chances.

Always thought that was a bit weird. Maybe there's something in there about Pep not being willing to trust these young players until they show enough confidence that they're demanding to start over seasoned pros.

Whatever the thinking, I hope Pep's post match comments weren't just lip service. And I don't think they were.

The way James celebrated that second goal yesterday makes me think he's not given up on his City career yet.

It could be a seminal moment for him in his City career or it might be a flash in the pan.

But, firstly, I hope Pep shows more faith in him from now on. Secondly, I hope he grabs any chance with two hands and joins Phil / Rico in breaking through that glass ceiling.

He's definitely good enough and it looked like he's got the enthusiasm to rise to the challenge.

Well spun.

Fantastic performance, don't think he did a single thing wrong.

For me the move is still to start Foden against West Ham, see if he's got a bit of a kick up the rear end. But if he's still not doing it bring McAtee on again, even earlier.
