9 | Erling Haaland - 2025/26

I knew commenting on the Haaland thread was a bad idea

What I’m trying to get across is, he has the physical attributes to do more - stick his arse in the way

Whilst I’m here - we are likely to finish 3rd or below this season. If Marmoush(or Alverez) were our strikers, would we be much worse?? I don’t know…
They can all do more but Haaland is still banging in the goals. He’s not perfect but he never was. I think what we saw in his 1st season, was he was the cherry on top of what was already a pretty perfect cake. Now the cake has collapsed and some are wanting/expecting something from Haaland that he’s never been or had.

Couldn’t see it in the ground but fuck me this was woeful

That can't be the same player we signed, in his first season he had a shot that would have burst the net, now he can't even kick it, he's also about half the size he was as well, defenders no longer bounce off him, but hey he has loads of advertising deals so all's good right

“The cake has collapsed” a wonderful phrase which is apt

He has got to do more.

I've been saying this on here recently, probably too much, but we need someone to be a god damn menace out there, and it should be him. We don't really play with a hard arsed midfielder or defender, so Erling should take the bad guy role and set the tone out there that it's not going to be a picnic.

He started to nibble at that other Scandinavian defender on Brighton, and Iwas hoping he'd get fired up, but he faded

Since he arrived we’ve had 19 PL games without him. Won 14, drawn 4 lost 1.
So those think we’d be sunk without him need to think again.
Yes he scores a lot of goals but the team play worse with him in the side.
I didn’t like him handing the ball to Marmoush in the final and haven’t had much time for him since A world striker slams it through the goalie and the net Someone mentioned earlier his 50p heading and not timing his jumps for headers right , well that’s fkin basics When he’s good he’s effin good but for me he hasn’t been for a while

Looks like a Hoijlud finish….

He's missing too many chances over the last 12 months or so, I think that's fair criticism and today you could argue he had the chances to bag at least 2. But I still don't think we play in a way that prioritises our 500k a week man with a 10 year contract, and we simply have to, or sell him and try someone else. Pep needs to be bollocked by the board and build the side around getting haaland in behind all the time and if he refuses then we need a new manager who will build a team around haaland. He is the future of the club per the contract we've given him.

The way we play trying to accommodate his style is killing us. I absolutely guarantee if he was 'rested' for a while we'd go on a run.

Alvarez was an absolute menace. Miss him.

Love the big man, wouldn't win the treble without him, he's top 2 or 3 goalscorers in the world but...

Pep would choose to play without him if he could. We're a man down in the build up play every time.

A serious question here, not meant to be flippant: is Haaland better than Andy Cole?

Limited player who smashes in a load of goals but misses a few sitters per game.

Isak/Kane/Henry obviously more all-rounders. And Shearer type can score every type of goal.

Cole was obviously from the rotten side of town, but his numbers were good. In a thought experiment, would we be in a different position with Cole in the striker spot for the last few yeas?

On reflection, missing out on Kane (and Rice) was probably the beginning of the end - fully acknowledging that we won the treble after that.

How are we trying to accommodate his style ? by passing it slowly from side to side for most of the game and refusing to go direct ? we had a spell without Haaland last season due to injury and we were toothless, because our other forwards like Marmoush also don't suit our slow rubbish style and prefer directness, difference is Haaland guarantees a shitload of goals in spite of our style.

And who would replace him ? Marmoush ? that's even worse, a false 9 ? who would play that role ? we can't bench Haaland despite his limitations because he can still score 30 goals with his eyes closed, and believe me we'll need all of those goals this season.

It’s probably only me but I have never seen him as super clean hitter of the ball (if that is the word)
Aguero in comparison was always better and crisp hitter/ kicker of the ball, better than Haaland

He's still the best option but Marmoush doesnt have good enough technical ability either.

To carry a striker with no build up play the other 10 need to be technically superb and we only have 3 or 4 players that meet that criteria.

Watching Haaland doing his shooting practice before the game, i was shocked how often he scuffed his shot or simple didnt put enough on it.
The last 15 minutes of the game Haaland was just shaking his head,

When Pep arrived he made Aguero change his game, close down the defender, defend from the front. Pep has changed the way we play and allows Haaland to do very litte work.

Haaland is easy to mark the two centre backs just stand with him.

Is Pep afraid to tell Haaland to work ? Haaland has a 10 year contract so Pep feels he is untouchable. There was no reason to keep Haaland on yesterday.

It's ridiculous to question Haaland when you look at his figures.
