We need to talk a bit more about this guy's hold-up play. Because it has come on by leaps and bounds since his first season with us. It's for the others to take their chances and score. Because he creates for them.

Still slightly out on his timing for his headers. Second half, lovely cross, can't remember from whom, but he had a completely free header. It arced over the entire defence. He leapt a bit too early (or a bit too late). Came off the top off his head and over the bar. Would have been his hat trick, done and dusted. If I say it, it is because this guy is a beast. I literally believe he can score quite a lot more from aerial balls, and if he can, he can be getting 35-40 goals in the PL alone, regularly.

I thought my ears were deceiving me when I heard 8 hat tricks scored in PL in 2025.
None for Erling and then the reporter went through who had scored the last hat trick for each PL club and Erling was on the missing list again.
I'd say he must be fuming inside when Pep subs him off when he has scored 2 in a match.

He's smarter than that. He knows he's our main striker and should be as fresh as possible, as he starts every single game in the PL/CL.

Part of the reason he struggled last season after an excellent start was that he was overplayed. Keeping him fresh and hungry is key to this season.

Pep used to do the same with Agüero - 8 times when having scored a brace Pep subbed Kun… now done it 15 times with Haaland.

I reckon Pep wants them to be pissed off by it n’all. Does it on purpose so they let rip in the future.

His hold up play is definitely underrated. He's strong, wins most battles and he's also got great vision and good close control. Against the rags in the 6-3 he played that fantastic ball across for Phil to score - he's a very good footballer and he's shown this season his dribbling ability as well. It's a case of why bother doing that stuff when he's the best finisher in the business and it's better attacking space. So much room for him to improve all-round but he does his job better than anyone out there.

In terms of his ability in the air - it's definitely something to work on, but I'm always unsure whether he's getting to things no one else would get near and that makes me criticise him more than is fair? Sometimes he jumps a bit too high and it's quite hard to meet a ball you only need to jump a little bit for and still get it on target. Maybe I'm being too generous?!
