I think Riquelme plans to move Vinicius to make room for Haaland, financially and on the pitch. There might be a clause for Real Madrid, like Schlotterbeck's at Dortmund.

Its still very hard to see Riquelme win regardless. Florentino knows all the doors and has all the keys. The man is incredibly adept at power brokering.

They will obviously deny it. Figo did it too in 1999. Nobody in their right mind will back someone who might not win regardless. I wouldnt say that settles it.

But it could also very well be possible that this Riquelme guy is just a charlatan throwing promises around. It happened before with Ramon Calderon. Im inclined to believe this, since if there was a clause, Florentino would already be on it. I suspect Riquelme is plotting some kind of Vinicius or Mbappe swap deal if Maresca prefers one of them more than Haaland, but that is also highly unlikely given City's reaction.

I wouldnt say Im disappointed though, I dont think Haaland will work with the issues Madrid has currently. He would be a marketing dream but on the pitch there are much more rational squad building directions.
