The 2000 minute comment is about the most sense in this thread. Hes currently smashing it, and when he gets more game time I fully expect him to take it to the next level, as i see it he needs game time to get his eye in.

It's relative to personal expectation. I 'discovered' this kid in 2014 playing for the Brazil U23 or U20's and pretty much instantaneously had a strong feeling that he'd be the next neymar. Not that level, just slightly below it so I started keeping my eye on him to see how long it would be before Real or Barca got him. I ended up watching a handful of games at Palmeiras and knew he would be an instant hit when Brazil called him up. It was fun keeping tabs on him to see his if his progression played out like I thought it could and each step of the way he completely matched expectations. He tore it up in Brazil, got his call up, took his first opportunities perfectly, lead Brazil to their first olympic gold, got linked to the biggest clubs, got the big move, was an instant success bagging goals left and right when he arrived and fulfilled the hype every time. I never even considered it a possibility that he would think of coming to City so the kid is something of a dream signing for me personally.

The eye test is referring to following the kid before he was linked to big clubs and believing he had the talent to be the best striker in the world. Based on my expectations for his career arch and potential he's not as far along as I expected him to be as of right now. That's excessive expectation but that's the standard I feel he's fit to be placed in. Most noticeably in terms of finishing. His finishing is perfectly fine for where he is at right now in his progression like I mentioned and the data proves that to be 100% factual. That scoring rate of a goal every 100 minutes and one every 110 minutes can't be made up by Gabby missing the chances that people love to call him out for. That happens for every player in football. The extra 10% edge Kun has can only be made up by scoring goals where viewers are left a little bit baffled at how they pulled that off. It's obviously reserved for the top players in football.

Scoring goals isn't a problem for any player that plays in a guardiola system. Anyone moderately talented enough will score pretty close to the same rate. That goes for Nolito, Sane, Mahrez, Iheanacho, and Gabby as they all score near that same rate. There's two exceptions..Raz and Kun who have that 10% boost I mentioned because they are literally the top, top, shelf. Best two or three in the world if not the very top. If Raz can make that leap then Gabby absolutely can too. It needs to start trending that way towards the end of this season and/or the beginning of the next one. If it doesn't then the next great young player will be given that chance to come have a go. Perhaps the Leipzig kid Haaland is built for it...he also happens to be a massive blue.

I'm not prognosticating either or saying he'll be sold. That's just the way it should work at the top clubs in world football. I still believe he can do it but it's fully up to him to make that happen. All we can do is wait and see how it plays out. I've been in the kids corner from the very get go so you won't find many rooting for him more or more excited for that leap to happen.
 
He is likely to start at Anfield as we'll need his energy and prowess in the air where we are bound to have problems defending set pieces without our tallest players in Laporte and Rodri (and Kompany leaving). Very much hope he grabs that chance.

There are also more defensive options with Raz up front but they are less likely right now. Sergio is great, but is likely to be isolated up front and can't offer the running Gabby is capable of.

Big season for Gabby that. Also for Foden, Rodri, Cancelo. They have to replace gradually legends like Kun, Dave, Ferna...Cancelo is replacing Walker, Mendy will hopefully find his feet finally and we have to cope without Laporte and Sane for many months. If Pep and the team win the PL from here, they won't be treated as mere mortals. Wonders are needed. And I believe wonders will be achieved.

Sergio is the big game player,he plays well v the dippers,we might only get a couple of chances and sergio is the one to be on the end of them and he is perfectly capable of running

Sergio has been fantastic against Liverpool at home (basically, he has scored in every game against them) but not that impressive at their ground. We have problems with injuries to defensive players and our main weapon to stop Liverpool will be to press them to death. Also Gabby may be a bit more useful when defending from set pieces. This makes me think he will get the nod as he did against Everton and palace away. Would be very happy Segio to start and help us get a result there.

When has gabby helped defending set pieces? ,if he is leading the line he shouldn't be that far back anyway,assuming bernie is banned i would put raz on the right,gabby left and sergio in the middle

Thats just not how we work. Whether it's Aguero or Jesus the striker always has defensive responsibilities at set pieces.

I'd like to see that, but it is a bit too attacking for an away game against Liverpool. Key to our defensive play is to keep the ball as much as possible and this ain't gonna happen with Raz, Gabby and Sergio. If Bernie is banned, then Mahrez will play. Pep may also go for 3 at CB and Cancelo and Mendy as wingbacks.

That said, I read that Matip is injured and will miss up to 6 weeks. We might try a more attacking formation, as Lovren isn't good and we will target him.

I'm afraid pep will go too defensive,maybe not having rodders might just stop pep doing that,we've seen that if you keep their fullbacks pinned back that is their main gameplan ruined,thing is to do that right up till the last second,hope that is what we do,a fully fit team and i wouldn't be too worried but their luck continues when we have nico and dinho giving away fouls by the bucket full,have to assume they will get at least one pen
 
Could be wide of the mark but I wonder if Pep is trying out Jesus on the left with Liverpool in mind given Sterling's performances at Anfield. I reckon he'd give TAA the runaround.

You're wide off the mark indeed. Raz is a cert in the starting XI. Pep just wanted to give playing time to both Sergio and Gabby.
 
I wanna see him on the right, Sterling on the left, Aguero down the middle at some point.

He's been much better on the right for Brazil than he was yesterday and I think he struggled with having to check back onto his right foot a lot yesterday.
 
I'd be interested to know if Pep actually thinks he can/should play as a winger and will try it out more (because thats interesting, and something I've been wondering also) or if he played there last night because we have no one else to back up Sterling.

I'd love to see him play wing at Anfield against Robertson/Alexander-Arnold. He'd have a lot of space and opportunities to counter attack.
